Love this design, is there a hidden hood over the hob?

I'm referbing a flat and want to achieve this look, definitely want to cook on gas but not tall so I want my cupboards low like this...not 760mm above hob, which I have heard is minimum height, do you have any advice please?

We used the Miele DA2270 integrated cooker hood for this job which can be installed 650mm above a hob if cooking with gas, lower than generally recommended.

@Damian Farrell, the induction hob I've had since... what.. July or August? I think? Not that long. Took a while to get used to it, having always cooked on gas. Advantages: very quick, easy to clean, you can let it automatically turn off after a certain time. Disadvantages: sometimes the pans make annoying noises, has something to do with the resonance of the magnetic field I think? I don't know. But it can be a bit annoying. Make:Schott-Ceran, but the downdraft is from a Dutch company called Airo Design. Don't think they export to other countries. Anyway, almost every company does them now. Bora gets good reviews, Miele, Siemens... The videos on youtube show that the steam goes down and you think, yeah... right... But it really does go down. It works just as good, if not better than a regular one that is over the hob. I'm happy with it.

We prefer a hob on the island, we also agree with your husband that new induction technology will be the safest option for you and your family. The rings only get hot when a pan is on them and when a pan is removed, yes there is still heat there, however it is not scalding hot. It is also more sociable in our opinion to have the hob on the island is you are entertaining people. In regards to the extraction, you could ask your builder/kitchen installer to build a drop ceiling detail the same size and shape of your island to set the island location and have an extractor built into it which wouldn't be in your eye sight, you can also get external motors which boost the power and strength making the extraction work better. I MUCH prefer MATH's plan, or even switching the hob on the back wall of your plan. I am not a fan of hobs on islands :( . Personally I wouldn't subject my friends to a film of grease and cooking smells wafting directly onto them as they are enjoying a drink the other side of the bar, even with a pop up hood things won't be much improved because of the noise level they bring, even the quieter ones are still noisy and annoying in such close proximity. Plus there's always a host of kitchen paraphernalia needed to have on hand as you cook, room needed to remove a pan, dish out etc., with a sink at least you can add a wooden board over the top to hide the mess in the sink and provide some extra surface. And let's be honest in reality the need for you to have your back to your guests for long as you cook something on the hob at the back should not be for long, most of us cook things in advance with only minimal cooking left to do once guests arrive.
