Our new house - decorating the living room
Comments (11)Minnie is absolutely right about the wallpaper - whether there is a physical demarkation or not, you will still be creating a false line for the eye that's hardly going to be restful in your living room, and will just look odd. My advice would be to dump the idea of a feature wall and put your desire for a floral pattern into a lovely rug. I assume you are keeping the carpet? It looks light beige in the photos and you need to keep this colour in mind, as well as the black of the sofas, when choosing the rest of the scheme. Maybe have a look at rugs with big, swirly floral patterns in browns and coppers or golds as well as beige and black, then pick colours from that (copper or gold would be lovely) for your cushions and curtains. The walls (and up the staircase wall) I would paint in a very, very light shade of whatever beige or taupe dominates in the carpet (impossible to tell from a photograph so grab some paint charts). Good luck....See MoreDecor for living room
Comments (13)Hi Suzie, I’m so glad you liked some of my suggestions, but apart from Dunelm, Next have a lot of nice accessories and Etsy is fabulous for reasonably priced artwork (I’m a bit addicted to Etsy!). So out of the things you’ve chosen, I would put the brass floorlamp where the wobbly lamp is to create a cosy corner. I would then put the table lamp to the right of your lovely sideboard, assuming you have a socket there, then one of your photos next to it, then the mauve heart, finishing with a plant at the end on the left. This isn’t written in stone so you can swop them about if needed and if they don’t quite fit. On the fireplace I would put the metal heart on the left and the green plant pot on the right with a plant in it. Then in the middle one of the photos and any nice pottery you may have. Or a clock in the middle, although I see you have a wall clock already! If you still feel a bit overwhelmed, visit Dunelm or Next or wherever and take photos of items you like and share with the Houzzers before you buy, but only if you wish to! Good luck 😊...See MoreNo idea how to decorate this living room.. any ideas?
Comments (4)Hi, congrats on your first home together! I'm struggling to get my head round the floor plan. Is there really no access to the living room from the hall? Nor to the kitchen? I think the L lends itself well to a dining area up by the kitchen and cosier seating in the other part. You could be bold and use different colour schemes to denote the different areas (perhaps with the dining area continuing the colours/style of the kitchen so they feel connected?) or just your furniture, rugs and lighting to change the feel of the spaces. Is there a nice view out through the conservatory that you'll want to be facing? Might you like to fit a fireplace on the end (garage) wall to give a focal point to the sitting room? Are you bookcases and house plants people? Good luck!...See Moredecorate my living room.
