Rad in the bay to knock off the chill. Put a nice cover on it. Perhaps a built-in settee like one of these that are vented for the rad. If not seating, then put a nice game table and chairs there for entertaining and family time. One sofa and two chairs (all small apartment size) will be most flexible for arranging and rearranging. You've only shown us 2 walls, so hard to advise much more. Comment and use the AI button to add more pix.

Daniel, If you can't think of a use for the space, why would you want to extend? There is a danger the property could become 'bottom-heavy' with not sufficient accommodation on the upper floors to warrant such a large ground floor, or possibly greatly compromise the garden. As you suggest the kitchen/breakfast room is already a good size, and supplemented by a dining room in addition to living room. The uses you may wish to consider for a potential extension are perhaps an office, playroom or utility. Regards, Simon

No Velux in dormer loft?

I haven’t noticed a cold or draught from our velux windows in winter, but we have the white ones, not the wooden ones. I think in the summer you will absolutely need them to create a through flow of air. One of our veluxes is at the top of the stairs and it acts a bit like a chimney in venting hot air out in the summer. The other one creates a breeze across the bedroom. You will need to get a blackout blind, the velux ones are made to fit the window exactly and they’re very unobtrusive. They have a metallic backing, so presumably the little cushion of air between the blind and the window, doubled with the cold being reflected away by the metallic backing creates a little bit of extra insulation?

No, it's not overkill. I've got two pairs of French doors onto my decking, one from kitchen/diner, one from lounge. I previously had a window in the lounge, but I like the extra light I get from the French doors, and more of a breeze when its hot outside.
