I am looking for a solution for our tv. I think this is a great idea. Who makes the mechanism? Thank you

i think it will be awesome if we can put TV on the kitchen or dining room, but guess the noises inside the kitchen couldnt compete with TV which is better way to connect living room with quite wide TV and the kitchen, so theres a way to watch the TV through kitchen or dining room as well

I install home automation equipment and lighting controls. I don't have a TV in the house : ) I do though, have a projector with a retractable screen. This has totally changed the way we watch TV. We only watch what we want to - which is mainly programs recorded via Youview or films. When the projector isn't on, the screen is out of sight in the ceiling and the room is setup for more social activities. Personally, I couldn't be without the radio. We have speakers in every room for this and music in general. Upstairs this is done with inceiling speakers so again, it is a discrete system.

Hi, To answer a couple of your questions. With a picture frame or mirror infront of a TV, there is a mechanism that moves the picture out of the way. The picture can move left or right, up or down. There are also versions that split the picture so that it goes both left and right. It is also possible to build a custom furniture unit below the TV to allow the picture to drop into this. One company that I've used that make these products is Future Automation. The quality of their products is excellent and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend them. They also make a lift mechanism that will allow the TV to be hidden completely under the bed : ) Under bed lift.

Thanks so much everyone, it's been great to read the ideas. Eletyadams - what a fantastic unit - this is the sort of style I love and think would fit in with the decor and style of the property. I wonder whether it would work in a soft white to match the dado and not clash with the oak flooring? Firtreecottage - I agree something not fixed would be better. The stove was already here when we moved in so we're very lucky! It kicks out some heat too! I believe it was from our local stove place midland-stoves.co.uk
