Crittall glass screen or double door?

Hi, we are planning to reconfigure the downstairs layout of our terrace house. We are moving the kitchen from the middle of the house to the front (the current kitchen will become a dining room). Also we try to address the issue that the middle room appears dark and a bit claustrophobic at the moment by opening up the space as much as can.

After taking fire regulation into consideration (3 storey terrance house that needs protected stairway) we come
up with two options at the moment (see current floorplan and 3D visualisation of two options attached)

- Option A: put in place a fire rated double pocket door
- Option B: replace wall partially up to door frame level with a fire rated Crittall glass screen and one single fire rated pocket door

We are really torn between the two options so all thoughts/advices are welcome. We like The idea of Crittall but then Option A is a cheaper option than B by about 4k which is substantial. The combined kitchen dining space is 7.7m x 2.9m so not very wide.

Yes, to the best of my knowledge there are no sliding doors I know of other than automatic sliding doors used in commercial applications, (plenty of those about and not Crittall® or steel look) so it looks like you might have to go down the hinged door route. The steel windows associaltion i'd suggest are worth getting in touch with to ask if this product is available either as a standard system or whether it can be made-to-order. Crittall style steel glass wall or triple sliders

Sliders all the way. My sister has had them installed in her kitchen - 3 panes filling the whole of the back of the house and it looks amazing. She has gone for a very modern country look so clean lines, shaker doors, very light and airy. Here’s a view with one door slid open, please excuse the garden as that’s next on the list once lockdown over!

What period/style is the house? What will happen to the existing internal kitchen window? Are the existing internal doors glazed or wood i.e. How much light do you get in the hall ATM? Would it be better to have the dining opening onto living in crittall without knowing which way the rooms face etc?

I understand why you would have crittal (because it would look fab). But I don't understand the need for the fire rated double pocket door. Isn't this just opening into the hall? Why not just have one fire safety door if you don't go for crittal? Am I missing something?

Thanks Minnie and Jen. Sorry that I was not clearer in my initial post. We are knocking through the wall between current front room and kitchen as well as the wall/internal window between current kitchen and living room.

The garden is west facing and front room east facing.

Our issue is that having seen some of the neighbour did the above, somehow the middle room still feels a bit claustrophobic and dark and so is the corridor. This is why we are scratching our head to come up with design to mitigate it.

Our initial plan is option B with Crittall glass screen and single pocket door. See proposed floorplan

Sorry press send too early!

We later found out that crittal screen with fire rated glass is very expensive which is why we came up with option A which is cheaper. Our thinking is that if we do a double pocket door then that can create opening up to 2.1m. As the door will be left open most of the time it create more open plan, making the middle room or dining room to be brighter and less claustrophobic.

Not sure if all these make sense...

Sunny you could probably use a 'mist system' in the right location in the kitchen and just switch to open plan...would be less expensive than Crittal... take a look at plumis.co.uk

We often fabricate this style partition wall/doors and we are a cheaper alternative to Crittall. We would be happy to quote to manufacture and install with or without glass.
