Should I have a light over dining table? Hello Houzzers, Can you advise please? Our kitchen extension is nearing the end of our building work phase and I need to decide on final lighting positions. It is a very big space so we are having an island with obligatory 3 pendant lights over. We will also have a dining table in the garden room end of the build. The electrician has left wires for a pendant light to go over the table but needs the final position before ceiling is plastered. Now I'm thinking that having a light will limit where we can put the table, eg if we want to move it in the future and also, (as I've not even thought about table size or bought one yet) its difficult at the moment to give a definitive position for the light. The kitchen is about 3weeks away from being fitted. So should I ditch the idea of a light over dining table?? Thanks in advance for your help!

I would try some different neutrals such as Little Greene 'Slaked Lime Dark' or Farrow and Ball 'Light Grey17'. It a lovely bright space and the floor is very warm and quite strong so I would go for a warm stoney neutral that complements the floor and the range. If the paint is more obviously blue of green it will make the floor look even stronger. Little Greene does oil based so I would use that over water based. Hi, Using colour: I would stay neutral for the walls above the units; a great colour example of this is 'Strong White' by Farrow and Ball and then for the wall on the left of the photo I would have this as a feature all and go for a darker tone such as 'Green Blue' by Farrow and Ball. Using lighting: spotlights are great as they can provide an even spread of light in your kitchen, especially if you are limited in natural light. Due to having a dark coloured back splash, having under cabinet spotlights on a separate electrical circuit would provide additional lighting on the worktop area in the evening and night hours. The installation looks great so far ! The room looks very modern and spacious and having 2 colours in a kitchen is very popular. With regards to wall units (see image below where shelves have been used) & fridge/freezers, it really is down to personal preference but American fridge/freezers are very bulky, but they do give a lot of fridge space, although the freezers do tend to be a little small. Shelving can look nice and it could keep costs down. Decisions, decisions :-) Here are some pics of shaker kitchens that our customers have sent us with 2 different colours that they have used in their kitchens.
