Tap colour dilemma

I LOVE the black crittal style shower enclosures, specifically the one from Lusso Stone.
However, I feel that I would then need black shower head and black basin taps and am worried about limescale build up.
It would also mean that I can't have a digital shower as these all seem to be chrome.
So do you think black is a passing trend?
The other option is to go for a standard walk in shower with brushed chrome digital shower but I really want to add something eye catching like brass basin taps but then this might look odd having contrasting tap colours.
Has anyone done this? Does it look ok?

Hi. I can't find a brass digital shower either :(

Someone had their fittings brass plated, see the attached link so it may be worth speaking to these guys. Which shower are you having? I had the aqualisa one which was great and I think they should be able to plate that. Someone else did the same a couple of years ago, I will see if I can find that thread

Crosswater's Totti range looks similar and has various options which might suit you. I have a similar bath and have used a bath filler which combines with the overflow and then have hot and cold panel valves mounted on the corner near the wall on the curved end of the bath. The advantage of this is that the plumbing is accessible by taking the bath panel off, should you wish to replace the valves etc. There isn't a Totti panel valve but as these are low profile I think you could get away with using a round panel valve.

You can get gold coloured or brass taps all over, depends on the design you fancy? Matching in the cabinet door handles is an excellent idea. However, they will not go with a silver sink.............swap to white if you can.

We have a Quooker Flex. Like you we used to have a spray tap in our old kitchen, which I thought I'd miss terribly, because I too used it all the time. Truth is we actually don't miss it at all - the benefits and ease of the boiler tap (with filtered water also) far outweigh the loss of the spray. What I would have missed more is the hose element of the tap. But the hose of the Quooker does a good enough job of rising down and also provides that essential long distance filling for buckets etc. which I find so useful and saved hefting full buckets and the like, in and out of the sink.

What about sticking with chrome for the plumbing elements (otherwise you will probably find there is something you can't get to match eg the loo flush or towel rail) and making the decorative elements the eye catching feature? Choose some really beautiful tiles as a basin splashback for example, or a spectacular mirror above the basin, or feature light fittings. These are all easier to change in future if they date.

I agree that contrasting finishes can look more interesting...think contrasting bag and shoes!

Black and chrome would work fine, as would black and brass (and definitely on trend). And you're right, if you live in and around London, you have hard water scale build up to deal with. Just be aware, brass fittings take more care (and are more expensive)...i.e. more time in cleaning and you have to be careful with what you clean them with. If not cared for properly, they will eventually go black - literally!

So, if you love scrubbing, then brass does look great...but if you'd rather be doing something else with your time, beside polishing your brass taps to perfection...then chrome is more practical.

Not so sure about black and brass, I think it would look a bit strange.

For my mum's bathroom which we're just doing we've got polished chrome taps with the handles and hot/cold plates in black, very striking. Perhaps you could consider that?

Good point Optic . Practicality wins over aesthetics everytime in my book! Thanks. I barely have time to clean myself let alone bathroom taps! I found some beautiful chrome taps at Potter Perrin today by Nicolazzi which has got me all excited about chrome again, well brushed chrome that is!

MinipMinipie - good point about tiles too. We were going to do plain white metro or hexagon tiles in the except the basin where I have seen some mermsidesque glass green tiles from Fired Earth that I have fallen in love with! Just need to persuade the husband now!
