Living room with lots of doors and big empty space - help!

Hi lovely space and I love the way natural light floods in. I have a couple of suggestions: 1. Two rugs not one to add warmth and colour you could then have a smaller matching rug at the end of the room that you quite rightly call an empty space. 2. Consider using a bracket to move the television onto the wall. Your plan showing the TV on the right looks good but if you used that plan then the TV would look best above the fireplace...that may be too high for comfortable viewing though. 3. A floor lamp where the plant is would give light and extra interest to that far corner especially if the plant is large enough to be placed in front or slightly to one side of the lamp. 4. At least one other lamp table and lamp beside the sofa 5. The empty area....obviously tight for space when the French doors open into the lounge but you may be able to fit either a narrow console or a larger piece of art with a narrow shelf beneath to fill that wall. Coupled with the rug you will be surprised how that will be enough to allow freedom of movement through that space and yet make the room feel whole instead of in two parts. I like your mix of furniture style which makes it easier for you to consider using sites like Freecycle or Craig's list to acquire a few extra pieces without breaking the bank. And if hubby is good aT DIY a narrow shelf will be a doddle you could also check out Houzz for ideas how to make a large piece of art to go above it too

Thanks for responding to soon, all! To respond to each in turn: Daisy - I definitely agree regarding the chair - just need someone to take the thing off me. The headboard is an issue as it holds the bed together so not sure how smooth replacing it could be. It seems all agree regarding the pictures so down they will come. Leaning towards the curtains, too. Thank you! Jen - The feature wall and knitted throw is a common theme so something I'll look to invest in! Just a case of what way to go with the feature wall and how to have the other walls tied in to it. Hmmm Minnie - as always, thank you. I actually looked at Hague blue but thought it was just too dark, although I'm torn again after seeing that picture. I might get some samples, as I like the contrast and it goes with a few ideas I saw. I had been thinking about a colour more like the one at the top of this post (which I can't move for whatever reason), which isn't too far from Hague blue (not sure of the exact colour right now but recall seeing it). I assume you'd move the bed closer to the window to allow more space with the drawers being by the door. The table by the bed wasn't the best as it's so high and the bed is rather low - to be honest I'll likely move the console table out the room at some point; not decided yet. I need to get a pendant light but figured I'd get it once doing the bigger things - the current light shade is looking very sorry for itself. A mirror does need inserting (something my girlfriend reminds me of weekly) - would you say a full-length onejust to the right of the wardrobe entrance? Your colour scheme - with the greys and mustards - sounds good, too!

A display of art should help - either one big picture or a grouping according to what you prefer. My floral work is colourful without being overbearing and because they are flowers, they will work with the green. I would not put a painting or print with too much green in it. You need something with colours to compliment the green. Have a nosy at my work and see what you think. A wee bit of colour will bring the room to life.
