small bedroom inspiration needed

I need to start thinking about decorating/planning my 6yo boys bedroom. It’s a bit smaller than his last one so I’m not sure how to arrange anything.
He’s requested a double bed but I think it will take over the whole room- unless anyone as ideas of how to make it work.
I was thinking of a mid sleeper... but not sure.
Any tips or tricks to make a room look larger ? Some good storage ideas?
These are the dimensions roughly in cm.
In his room he will need his bed, a large chest of drawers, a small bedside table, toy storage and a desk of some sort.
Ideas welcome!
Length of room- 367cm
Width of room at widest part- 265cm
Alcoves - 23cm deep
Space between alcoves - 133cm
Window 107cm across and 66cm from floor
There is only one plug socket behind the door .

Comments (43)You may want to reconsider keeping curtains as well as the shutters, as they don't keep out all the light, particularly as you said the room is bright & south facing. Especially in the summertime when it gets lighter so much earlier. From someone who's been awake since 5am because of this problem! Note to self: must get round to choosing curtains! Also, F&B cornforth white is very pale. We've used it on the interior of our windows, but I think it would be a little boring if we used it on the walls, too close to white, especially in a room as bright as yours. A friend with very good taste recommended Little Greene's French Greys. It's a lovely warm grey & there are several different tones. Don't be scared of even the darkest one as even that isn't too strong on the walls! Our master bedroom used to be at the south facing front of a 30's house too, but after rebuilding we're now at the back of the house. Although I love looking out over the garden, I do miss that glorious sunshine you get! (Although not at 5 in the morning!). Must admit we bith said ok, lets jut do grey and whites.. but I see farrow and ball paint Stifkey blue and just couldn't get the original idea out of my head! Family think we're crazy.. but I don't mind. And if it does look small, who cares! It's our bedroom! orderEd some new flooring, wood effect wallpaper (for one window wall) and furniture! Bit of a wait on furniture- 4 weeks.. but soon as it's all done I will post pictures! 5 years agoId be reluctant to go for a double and sell the idea of a trundle bed that can be pulled out for sleepovers. My son still has this one which has been great because of the 3 drawer storage.
