Which style of internal doors for our mixed period cottage? And what t
Comments (5)The only issue with ledged and brace with traditional fittings is the draftproof element. They do tend to curl way from the stops in my experience. If you have the money id go for a framed ledge and brace or any other style you fancy made bespoke for you to suit your sizes. If sound / draft proofing is an issue you can put a seal in the door stop that the door shuts tight against cutting out all draft and noise....See MoreWhat to do about the internal doors with open plan layout?
Comments (6)Never really a good idea to have only one way in and out of down stairs area, What would look good and stop the hallway resemble a tunnel, would be to block the existing entrance to the dining area, then just off centre (nearer to the main entrance), create an opening wide enough (approx 4.5ft) for small double glass doors (crittle would look lovely) also put the same style door to the kitchen area, this way will be easier and safer when cooking and preparing family meals, also when people come to visit, they won't have to walk through the kitchen to sit in the lounge, or walk back through the kitchen to use the loo good luck...See MoreShould I paint an internal door Matt black?
Comments (8)It’s ‘eggshell’, so it has a subtle sheen which I think works really well with timber doors. The colour is Farrow and Ball’s Off Black. I would advice against a pure black (if there’s such a thing...) which can look too stark. Are you considering other colours for your doors as well as (near) black?...See MorePutting internal bi-folds to separate open plan kitchen/diner/lounge ?
Comments (6)sometimes its good to take a breath and really think about how you live - rather than all focus being on the plans, which can seem immovable. For example, I have a largely open plan ground floor but on the advice of my sister whose kids were older at the time, I kept a small snug living room that is separate and as my kids have grown up through teenage years that has been a saving grace - we can all go to separate places,! I dont have to listen to video games whilst cooking etc :) Does one person often watch tv and the other like to read? Where do hobbies take place? Would it be a simple solution to just turn that dining table round to make more space for those doors? If you like to entertain would you like to hide the mess inthe kitchen to be cleared up later? I for example insisted that I could close my kitchen off from the front room and hall (and stairwell) because one of my pet hates is cooking smells lingering everywhere! Also consider if the doors could be retro fitted - and l ive in the space for 9 months first to see if you really need/want them?...See Moreminnie101
