Thanks kerrydonn and minnie 101 for getting back to me with your comments. I thought it was going to be a struggle to have this new room as kitchen, diner and family area too which is why I thought I'd see what others have to say. The extension we are having is only 3m x 5m as the other 2m is coming from half of an existing dining room and kitchen to make the whole area 5 x 5. At the moment we have a massive dining room and fairly large kitchen but they are separate and if we knock through we just end up with the 2 rooms, plus utility & cloakroom downstairs, and that just wouldn't be big enough. So the plan is to split the last 3rd of the dining room and kitchen off and use that together with the new extension to make one big room. The part of the dining room left will become a spare bedroom and ensuit and the part of the kitchen left will be corridor with a big boot room/storage. It was have lots of cupboards and storage and as it leads into what will be the new extension it can house a fair amount of kitchen stuff too, along with coats, shoes, hoovers, mop - all that stuff you never have anywhere for it to go. I guess we'll just have to wait and see to make final decisions once the structure starts to come together. Bye for now.

Do you have a floor plan with the orangery dimensions if you're not sure a table will fit? Does the kitchen fit a breakfast table? We've got a similar set up in terms of where the dining room and kitchen are located and the dining room is used for entertaining and family meals are in the kitchen. Do you have another use for the room such as playroom, study etc?

I agree with above.. but also, for me it would depend on the amount of light coming in as to whether you will find the room comfortable to be in. If you use it mostly at night for example, it won't really matter about loosing the small amount either side. If you use it a lot however, and would benefit or particularly love light and open feeling rooms then I would keep it at 3.9. Regarding the money aspect, it is one of those things for me (like flooring and work tops) I would recommend spending the money to get those things right and leave something else until later. They are not the easiest things to change down the line and I wouldn't want you to regret it or end up with a dingy room you have to then live in :)

Hi Sonia! I’m hoping to be able to get one through a door and window company as you say. The door I ordered was from a door company who sent out a surveyor to measure up the space and get the sizing right. But he said that they don’t make doors wide enough for what I want (even though I checked this with their customer services multi times!). He also said that even with their widest door we wouldn’t be able to also fit a side-panel. Sorry for the brain-dump! It’s all very frustrating since the whole point of the renovation is to make our bungalow accessible. Elki.
