Whatever you decide to do with that side wall, I would suggest that you keep the idea of an "art gallery" in mind. The furnishings/accessories you currently have in the room are strongly suggestive of this theme. Even your kitchen is very "artsy". For the buffet/bar, I would suggest three ideas. The first picture is of a mid-century modern console. If you are into the eclectic idea, some wood would bring some warmth to the space while at the same time keeping with the modern vibe. The second picture stays very closely with what you already have in the room - black, sleek, modern but also brings in a bit of wood for warmth. The third picture goes in an even more eclectic direction with a very ornate console painted in a gloss black. All three ideas would work so it's really up to your personal taste. For the shelves above the bar/buffet, I would go with all glass as in the fourth picture. I would try to keep most of the barware in clear glass so that the items on the shelf will still have a "lightness" to them. Keep books, etc. in the drawers in the console. Liquor could be arranged on a mirrored tray on the console itself. Keep clutter to a minimum. I'd still like to see some art on that wall, too. Another idea would be the last photo, which is my least favorite, but, again, its a matter of preference. Replace the green portion of the wall with red and I would do the wooden cabinetry in black and the shelf in glass. One more idea, to bring the red into the lounge area, consider a red rug with a sculpted design to fit under the entire sofa area. The lantern roof joining up with the Crittall windows - so much light and height. Couldn’t have it in my house though as we are S facing and would bake. The cat is also gorgeous! The cabinets, though beautifully made, you can keep. I prefer drawers. I’d ditch the old style tap for a more practical level mixer. And brick as a splashback would be hard to keep clean. It does all look gorgeous but not the most practical.

What other furniture will you be putting in the room. Everything has to Gel. So, are you going for Scandi, as the tables above would imply? It's a great high ceiling traditional room. The barn door implies traditional, and I think also the oak parquet and the tiles. Maybe a scandi table and chairs won't sit right with that? Maybe it would, it all depends on what else you want with it. I think i'm imagining more of an oak plank table, straight lines and possibly with the legs painted to match the kitchen. Or the same straight table with white legs and opulent looking blue chairs to match the kitchen.

Whilst I understand the constraints of budget I think you are approaching the planning wrong. I think the way to do this is to decide on the layout that works best and then work out what you can afford to do now- perhaps you can make economies on purchases such as the kitchen cabinets to get a better Gliw in your home. An architectural designer or a concept planner are worth considering to help with this- they would also help you visualise the finished space too. If this were my house I would be thinking the entrance wasn’t big enough for the size of house and I would be concerned about privacy of the bedrooms at the front, I also don’t like the current kitchen being some distance from a window and being a heavy traffic area. Although I can’t see the layout properly I think I have got the sizes about right to show how I would do it. I have moved the front door to the middle of the house, shown a vaulted hall with stairs to two big upstairs spaces, shown the living space as completely open plan but with the option of using one of the downstairs bedrooms or one of the upstairs rooms as an extra living room. In my opinion there are often houses with long narrow extensions across the back that should have been better considered as invariably people need bigger spaces rather than more small rooms and retrospectively opening up the original house into this space is more difficult that building in the steels originally. So my plan doesn’t change any of the external walls of the original property but a couple of internal brick walls have been removed. I have just shown what is commercial and probably wouldn’t cost the earth but a designer would spend time trying to better understand your needs.
