Hand Painted on Site or Sprayed in the factory ?

A Question I often get asked is what is the difference between Factory finish painted, and hand painted on site. I believe hand painting on site gives a softer finish which sits better with traditional furniture, you can calk the joins between the units, skirting , cornice etc before Painting . This eliminates the black lines and the furniture feels like its all one piece . When you are using painted furniture in a Contemporary design the smooth sheen of a factory finish works better. The units to the side of the Burr Walnut unit are factory finish. The Farmhouse kitchen is hand Painted.

I really like the colours in this picture as I think that the slightly 'greyer' off white cupboards would tie in well with your beautiful grey tiles. Comments (3)I think if you cost it out you will find that hand painting on site will bring your kitchens into a higher price point. There is also the hassle factor for the client as it will delay getting a completed project. There is also hassle for you- finding trades in different parts of the country who can consistently finish your kitchens as you would like them finished. In my humble opinion there is a price threshold where buyers want more than quality, they want a nationally recognized premium brand name and reputation and you might be better keeping your current workshop finished kitchen option but also offering a primer only option and giving the client the option of getting their own painter....See MoreI plan to paint my 'new' kitchen and need advice.

I have quotes from a professional kitchen painter who has requested for the cabinets to first be primed off site, so I contacted someone in a business park, who do all sorts of things on wood, asking them if they would spray prime it. Now I have also got a quote for 'only spray priming' and also 'spray paint to finish'. the spray painting by this business park type of place is nearly half the price of the hand painter, not to forget for him I also need to add cost of spray priming. So it boils down to this: spray paint or hand paint? can someone show me pictures or a link to a spray painted and a hand painted kitchen? 9 years agoThe reason I ask is I wanted to find a collapsible rack for site work, found nothing so made this (see photo) Its does the job but its a bit of a beast to store at home (trestles take a bit of beating!!! ;-) )
