Design Students, Here’s Why You Should Join Our Mentorship Scheme
Find out everything you need to know about how to apply for the Houzz Mentor Programme
Are you a student of architecture or interior design – or are you studying design and have a keen interest in interiors? Are you looking for ways to gain some hands-on experience from someone in the know? Why not apply for our student mentoring programme? We’re teaming up with some of the industry’s best architects and interior designers to offer mentorship programmes to qualifying students. Here’s what you need to know.
When will I be assigned a mentor – and for how long?
You’ll be paired up in August or September 2018.
The mentor will support you through your final academic year from September/October 2018 through to May 2019.
How much time can I expect the mentor to commit?
In order for these programmes to be valuable to students, we’re committed to finding mentors who represent the best of the industry. As you can imagine, such people are usually very busy professionals – looking after clients and often running a business, too.
We want these mentorships to deliver quality versus quantity of time, and for this reason we’re only making loose recommendations about the time commitment.
Houzz will provide funds for the mentor and mentee to meet and have lunch as an initial introduction to each other. After this first meeting, we advise you to spend no less than eight hours (one full day), but no more than 32 hours (four full days) together through the duration of the time period (October to May).

How will students be selected and paired with mentors?
We’re expecting the programme to be very popular and we’ll be assessing students on a number of criteria. We’ll also be pairing mentors and students based on geographical proximity, to keep things as easy as possible.
We’re not limiting the number of mentorships we’re offering, but we will work together with students and mentors to ensure there’s a professional and personality fit.
