Thanks Sophie. At the moment I was wanting to find out if such a thing existed. Given that it looks like there may not be an off the shelf product, we'll talk to our builder.

We had a very similar question the other day so may be worth trying to find it? It may help. I sourced a 1930's front door online. It is narrower than normal as I just couldn't find one locally. There are hundreds of doors online. Hardwood is the priciest. Mine was £189 but it is oak veneer over a pine core. As my door is in a porch it doesn't really get wet so I could get away with it. It was fitted by a local chippie and then I painted in F & B Cooks Blue. It does look good. I would research the right style door for the era of your house and keep to that style. My sister recently had a composite door fitted to her terraced house. It's black with chrome furniture and it is lovely. She paid about £600.

These may not be what you are looking for as they are glass doors but they fold away flat and are also top hung. On the pricey side though! https://www.vufold.co.uk/internal-bifold-doors

depending on the aperture available, how about hung barn doors? Difficult to say what will work without a picture of the walls, space, style of decor?

Thank you for your responses. Sue I will contact the company tomorrow and arrange to call in to have a look. There is a house I pass every day which I'm sure has those colour doors and windows your referring too and I can't help but look at it each time I pass.

It's a real shame when people replace wooden sash windows with upvc. As Jonathan says check with the freeholder & if budget permits replace with wooden sashes.

It sounds like it might be worth getting some pre-application advice (ring your local planning office) before you go to the expense of having drawings done and doing a full application. Because the door faces on to the rear garden the planning department may be happy for you to do this without needing planning permission. Unfortunately this is hard to predict as it is very much at the discretion of your local council and isn't uniform across the country. Good luck with it.

As we are in a conservation area I am assuming we needed planning permission for alterations at the rear?

Will need to check then, thanks!

Hi Shazadi, lots of window companies will offer a supply only service where they will make the windows for you and send them up and you arrange the fitting with a local installer. That way you can use a company to fabricate the that isn't necessarily in your area. A good company should be able to advise you on the design of the windows and what will suit your house most. Don't discount timber windows too quickly however, there have been a lot of innovations in the area and they are carbon neutral, very thermally insulating and with the right paint work or finish can last for a long time without much maintenance.
