Wood Floor in Master Bath? Good or Bad idea?

I really love the look of real wood floors in the master bath. Is it a bad idea because of water damage and maintenance issues? Would love to hear from anyone that actually has wood floors in their bath about the upkeep of the floors and how they have done over the years! Thanks!!

Would not recommend it! Water damage from in/out of shower/bath tub and toilet area are a major issue. Would recommend you to look into a porcelain tile that mimics the wood look.

Good! I hate carpet, then add a nice soft area rug under bed.

Yes and the sinks are on the closet wall ...just walk behind to get to the closet...double sinks and double closet entrance help with multiple people getting ready at the same on either side, you could even keep the sink wall a bit lower for circulation and openness in the space to make it feel larger

I think you could have got away with it although lovely to use it for your room! I think (!) you have just about enough room for curtains as there won't be much material to stack back although you may need to use end caps rather than finials on the eaves side. My only worry Is that it could make the wall seem shorter but try it with sheets first as I do like the look as per my first pic and would have the same layout with bed where it is and move your chests under the window. I like the other pelmet but it doesn't allow the blinds to show unless you block light so might remove it. I mistakenly thought you had the grape version of the fabric so might look at a grey velvet bed or even a green one or I do like the rattan ones. The one pictured is from the French bedroom company. I managed to get one for my spare room in it's raw state off eBay for £270 and then I painted it myself. If you could store the laundry elsewhere this was my idea for a leaner mirror opposite the window but with a low upholstered bench/settle in front. The dressing table looks as if it was made to measure and good for storage? I might paint it a lighter shade, change the mirror for something a little more delicate and add a stool

I love the 'where do you keep your elbows' conundrum. ^^ It was great to see your layout because it was what I was thinking to try and reclaim some of the hall space. Danielle also captured the idea of switching the bathroom and the kitchen extremely well - and I really think this works too. I realise though that moving the door to the garden will involve a new set of stairs down to the garden - a big change, but perhaps minimises the changes to the internal walls as a balance. Jonathan's idea is also very creative - I had never even thought of this possible configuration. I realise as I am seeing these ideas that I'm more willing to give up some of the larger bedroom space as well, even if it off-sets the fireplace, to keep the idea of the wood burning stove as the heart of the flat. It may be that we are a small family of 3 and I'm thinking of this apartment as a family space, rather than for sharers. For sharers, maximum bedroom space is probably ideal... but for a family, at least in our case, we don't need much bedroom space. Also wondering about making the large bedroom smaller - to the edge of the fireplace to increase the bathroom. And moving the kitchen to the main living space... but not sure if this is overthinking things. And maybe Danielle above is the simplest option, even with replacing the stairs....

Hi Jale, I agree with Sonia. Get a tiler to do your tiling, especially light tiles and dark grout. Every little mistake shows up. Pro tilers will mark out all the tile positions first to prevent tiny slivers. You could replace with white grout to hide the mistakes. Also your builder hasn't mastered siliconing!

I have read that if you do want to install hardwood in a bathroom it needs to be sealed extremely well to avoid water damage. Some people say using marine grade sealant works because it's made for wood that gets wet frequently. I cannot say from a personal experience if this is a good idea or not, but it might be something to check out.

Keep it. We've had wooden ships for thousands of years. You just need a marine sealant.

We use reclaimed oak a lot. Well aged and looks stunning. A good initial treatments of oil and then a couple of times a year and as Jeena says, it will last a millennia
