How do you make your home cosy?
Comments (8)I like having small collections of things that remind me of good times, like some family photos, a souvenir or something I picked up on a fun vacation, a gift from a good friend, etc. My rooms are similar to old time parlors with small collections of "curiosities" that get people talking, like my certificate for finishing my apprentice blacksmithing class that I had framed and hang on my wall, or the photo of me in my Civil War uniform with my team's cannon. A game of Skittles from Dad's home state of Kentucky, or a fossil from Mom's childhood home in Pennsylvania. https://www.berea.edu/student-crafts/skittles-game/...See MoreHow do you feel about robot vacuum cleaners?
Comments (36)@LTS I picked up a Neato Botvac D7 Connected on Amazon's black Friday sale for £399 the other day. It's gone back up to £699 for now but keep an eye on it as in most youtube reviews I've seen it stomps all over the Roomba 980. It's also D shaped so it handles edges much better than round robots, and you can create no-go zones via the app which is great for areas with wires and obstacles it may get stuck on.. Another robot I've heard is good is the Xiaomi Roborock S50, plenty of online reviews for that as well, and it also mops as well as hoovers. It's Chinese made but they do a European version, you'd just need to attach a UK plug or buy a UK plug adapter for it. You can get the S50 for £385 on Amazon. If you don't want to overpay for a Roomba then consider one of those models; only thing that put me off about the Roborock was aftersales if something was to break; Neato are a little more established. There are comparison videos galore out there so take a look before committing your funds!...See MoreHow do you feel about coastal style - love it or leave it?
Comments (18)Please can anyone suggest the best method to deep clean, what I think, are porcelain floor tiles? They have a textured finish and ad we live beside a beach, dirt, dust and sand easily lodge and make the tiles look constantly grubby and generally filthy. I have tried conventional mops, scrubbing on my hands and knees which isn't ideal! Any suggestions, recommendations greatly appreciated!...See MoreHow do you make your home stand out?
Comments (28)Yes, but it also take a special kind of arrogance to override an architect's vision for a particular development. For example, my parents' housing estate was designed with no garden walls at the front so that the houses would seem as if they are almost in a park and there would be an expanse of green all the way along the roads. Then a few territorial types took it into their heads to build piddly little garden walls so now the road is a hodge podge of some green with a few silly walls around some gardens. There is no design consensus so the street doesn't look as good as it could look. Anarchy in design doesn't usually work. Usually it looks better when one person makes the design decisions and one, cohesive vision is expressed. For example, would you employ a different interior decorator with wildly different styles for each room in your house? It might work, but there's a greater chance it will look like the hodge-podge that it is. Would you have one dress designer make your whole dress or would you ask for pockets and collar to be cut by someone else? In some cases, a good result can come of an individual resident on a street making their own strong statement with the exterior of their house (we're not talking about subtleties such as colour of doors etc), but they are definitely the exceptions that prove the rule. I can think of many examples of tasteless 'improvements' made by individual residents to their properties (e.g. the one pictured above, frankly) and only a few good ones....See Morekcdg
