It might be summer, but the evenings are quite chilly and there's nothing quite like having a throw at hand to keep you warm while you watch TV or you read a book.

Is your living room equipped with a throw? What does it look like?

Definite yes to throws! We live in NE Scotland and a rug (throw) is a must even in summer. And yes, most of ours are tartan:)

Always! A vintage quilt tucked behind the sofa pillows to combat the chill of summer a/c and a faux fur for warmth during our New England winters.

I have both including a stunning floor lamp that I wouldn't be without. It gives the whole room a soft glow from a dark corner and I have it on all day. The table lamps and lanterns, together with candles in the evening, make the room a wonderful space for relaxing. The lanterns by the fireside are surprisingly effective - a string of fairy lights wound around a silver birch log and placed inside a lantern. I've added moss, beads and some woodland creatures in one of them - quite magical! BTW I covered the lampshades too!

A flickering flame surrounded by ancient carved stone - Antique stone fireplaces add both character and a sense of place to any room, the knocks and bumps of the decades nay centuries, connecting hearth to home. Even with the advent of central and underfloor heating we crave that focal gathering point that a fireplace provides - a room without a fireplace? Nowhere to hang the picture, mirror or tapestry, no were to put your cards and certainly no place to hang your Christmas stocking!

I know this is an old post, but I thought I’d add that saying that Southern Europeans have their elderly live with them has not been my experience. My Italian cousin has her elderly mum live with her and it is driving her round the bend. Her mum has always been a difficult and demanding woman and even more so now. She is not doing it out of love, but duty. Another cousin has arranged for 24 hr care in her mother’s home as she has dementia and is bed bound. She confessed that it’s costing an absolute fortune but she has a restaurant to run and does not feel she can care for her mum full time. My mother was a very demanding and controlling woman and I was her carer as a child whenever she was unwell. When she started to develop dementia in her 80s I did consider having her live with me, but she had poor mobility and could not manage the stairs to access the only loo in my pretty tiny house. Also I don’t think I could have coped emotionally. Plus she didn’t want to! After several falls and leaving the grill on all night, my siblings and I decided a Care home would be best for her. We are talking about a person with dementia, very poor mobility and double incontinence. We found her a lovely care home a few minutes away and within weeks she had settled in well and even made a best friend. Seeing them holding hands was so sweet! The staff were lovely and I felt very welcome there. My sister loved it there so much she started to work there. Mum flourished in the home as she had company, good food and good care and our relationship improved until she passed away 2 years later.

I have a couple of them now. They are stored away in my ottoman or placed over my chaise. I don't like them on the sofa.

Yes! A faux mink throw, a fleece tartan throw, and a blue and cream hand crocheted throw made by my ex-MIL as a wedding gift.

I just got through crocheting one for my son and now am knitting one for another son. There are a few times in the winter I need one in AZ.

I live in Perth Australia, so it's our winter. I have a few throws out....a friend made me one with lizards on it because that's my little signature mark that I put on all the pottery I made.

I always keep a throw in the living room. I think it adds a degree of coziness, no matter what the season. My summer throw is a handmade quilt, given to me and made by my sister.

Here in the mountains of central NY, I keep multiple throws in the living room. A few polar fleece throws, my favorite thick pink sherpa fleece throw and even a twin size fleece blanket, that my dog takes over if I leave it on the couch. A NY Rangers throw in our gameroom and a patterned throw on the daybed in my sanctuary (exercise/dressing room)

Soft, fluffy and warm. In colors that suit the room. Have several, and store them in a chest tucked in corner of room.

We have a black faux fur throw that I use when curling up on the couch on chilly evenings. When not in use (like now - we don't get many chilly evenings in the summer in So Calif), it is kept folded on the fireplace raised hearth.

A lovely Welsh wool one, a crochet blanket I made and my favourite my son's old cot quilt. (He's 21 now, so doesn't mind.) Still referred to as his Bunny cover!

afghan gets laundered and put away mid June around here in the so cal high desert. In the evening we are outside watching stars not in front of the tv.

Our Poconos vacation rental has throws in the living room and the family room. It's the perfect way to get cozy on those cool evenings.

In the summer, I keep this lightweight throw close at hand. (Even if I don't have to wrap up in it, it helps protect the chair -- way prettier than Grandma's plastic on the upholstery!) The pink and green in the plaid, along with the embroidered floral pillow (both from Ikea), tie the white chair with my rose-print sofa. In the winter, I swap out the throw and linen pillow with a solid green chenille throw and pillow (Pottery Barn).

Always, summer and winter. We keep a throw on the leather chair..cozy when windows are open at night. And we have a wool blanket folded on the sofa just in case we get a cool evening, Love to keep windows and doors open all year so even 90 degree days can have cool nights.

My husband is always cold, even in summer when the AC is not running, so I keep two cozy throws over the back of the sofa and loveseat. One is a tan, cream and grey variegated blanket crocheted by me, and the other a is dove grey cable knit throw purchased at the Bay.

Where I live, no throw is necessary in the summer. Therefore, mine gets laundered the end of spring, stored and brought out in the fall.

Of course, we get cold nights here in Montreal...it is a soft mohair green throw with multi coloured fringes...we love it !

I have a plush microfiber throw in a burgundy color. Although warm this time of the year, it helps to keep the draft off my shoulders when the ceiling fan is running.

Always! And I change it according to what accent colour I'm into at the moment (yellow these days). But it's not for look only - in Montreal winters it's cozy and in summer sometimes my living room is the coldest from the A.C.

I have a few also. When we travel we collect unique cloth market bags I roll up my throw and stuff into bag when not being used and also makes a pillow or back rest when in bag. Looks like "couch art" and always a good conversation piece

In reading the answers to the many questions asked by HOUZZ admin., I always realize how alike we Houzzers are...we are nesters here, making our homes as comfortable and pleasing to our eyes as we can. Love seeing the pics of others' blankets/throws/quilts...I always have a throw for both the sofa and the comfy reading chair. In the fall/winter, I have a creamy white faux fur on the sofa and a wool blanket on the chair and for spring/summer, change them out for lighter weight cotton throws.

Absolutely! There is nothing better than cosying up with a throw on the sofa on a Sunday evening. My favourite is a pure alpaca wool throw which I picked up on my travels in Peru, it is ridiculously warm and soft!

I use sheepskins instead of blankets. It really adds comfort to a contemporary room or can modernize an older room and in my opinion looks less frumpy than a blanket. I use them all year round, but are amazing in the winter as they are insanely warm and soft

Yes, in spring/summer an aqua boucle one, and in fall/winter a faux dark fur one but they are for show. We have matching snuggies, lol, for function. They were a gag gift.;)

I have a lot of throws! I have two huge faux fur ones rolled up at the end of a corner sofa, where there is no back as it's the chaise part, so they work as a back rest. I also have a gorgeously soft chenille type which is light grey with feint white stars on, to pull over my legs when it gets chilly. In the bedroom I have a basket full, mostly floral to go with the room, they are great when it's too warm to get under the duvet when watching a movie in bed.
