Basin too big?

On entering our en suite, this is the view. It's. Large room, but slightly awkward with the slanted corners. Anyway, the builders were supposed to use a smaller handbasin we had removed from elsewhere. But they have put in the huge one instead.
The mirror will be hung above it, and I will put a trad glass shelf below mirror. But is it too huge . It dwarves the toilet, IMO, and although not uncomfortable from any position, does it look ok??

Comments (10)I have a rather tiny bathroom and the door opens into it. It doesn’t bother me, but it obviously bothers you. You could have it opening outwards, but it will depend what’s on the other side, for example I can’t do that as it would open out onto the top of the stairs. 9 years agoI would get a smaller mirror.... this accentuates the size of the basin... I would go with one about the size of the mirror without the boarder and I think that will look great...it is about proportion and scale...the mirror just overtakes it all....the mirror is also more in keeping with the style of the basin and toiletmirror pic for you...hope this helps

9 years agoThat IS why there is a plug. Just like filling a washbasin when there wasn't running water.
The convenience of fixtures that mix water to one's preferred temperature is so lovely, and manufacturers still include the plug for the sink so you can run any temperature water into the basin -- the best of both worlds.
I agree with you, Susanna, given the proximity of the two (toilet and sink), the sink looks as if it is simply too close to the toilet. What are the dimensions of the current sink? I think the mirror will look lovely once it is hung.
I found a "georgian" style that is 24" wide with an 18.5" projection that uses a single center mount faucet.
The second example is a scant 19" wide with a 14.75" projection designed for tight spaces.
Both products are U.S. products but I have a notion that similar ones would be available where you live.
