Comments (12)Personally I think that with the neutral palate any colour will work- but I feel that you need to choose a contemporary design to work with your German kitchen. I would choose a simple but elegant sofa and chair, choose a pale neutral (but not grey to avoid the fifty shades thing) Then I would add colour through accessories and a patterned/ textured rug. Separately I think the worktop upstand detracts from the mirror splashback behind the hob and is unnecessary. Otherwise I think the kitchen looks great....See MoreKitchen Floor Tile Choice
Comments (11)Thanks for your advice. Yes I plan on getting a few samples of ceramic wood effect tile. Have also been looking at VLT. Not sure about the blue. While it does draw on the colour in the hallway I'm just not that into a pale blue. Would prefer a dark blue which might work also. There is a good amount of daylight in the kitchen. I think the colouring in the photo below is quite good for the kitchen units. We plan on having a tall dresser which could be in that dark green with the remaining units in grey. That vinyl herringbone or parquet seems to be a popular current style choice. Not sure if it will clash with the hallway though....See MoreTile pattern advice please.
Comments (43)So many times I've come across articles which focus on design and ignore practicality. False walls and concealed pipe runs look great and but require absolute competence from the plumber to avoid leaks. Don't spend £1000's on decoration and £40 on cheap taps which will not last long. Spend money on getting the tanking done properly so that showers don't leak and if fitting a freestanding bath seal around the base so that water from splashes does not run under and drip onto the ceiling below. Just remember that every concealed joint on water carrying pipework is a potential leak and any repairs will ruin the lovely finish you have spent hours agonising over. Oh and don't forget to install a good water softener to keep everything limescale free or those nice new surfaces will soon look tired....See More

9 years agoI'm not sure what exactly you are looking for, but I think you should have a look at Fired Earth tiles - they have some interesting colours and patterns. http://www.firedearth.com/tiles
Also, rustic slate could be a good choice too.

Have a look at this photo, we have this tile available its lovely and can be combined with the matching plain grey tile to soften it a bit. The photo is the brown/sepia option but it comes in a very pretty pale blue and yellow. It's not on our website so I'll try and find a photo to send you tomorrow. The tile is porcelain and therefore very durable and doesn't require sealing. We also sell Original Style tiles but they do require sealing.
