Designing a home gym - creative ideas for interior design?

I have just received planning permission for a 5M wide X 4M deep garden room that I am splitting into store room that is ~1.2M wide and a gym for the rest of the space (ends up being ~3.5M wide and 4M deep). The roof is pitched.

My current plan for the gym is to cover 1 wall with mirrors, 1 wall with bifolding doors and paint the rest of the walls white. The floor will be vinyl to provide some cushion and low maintenance & low cost.

Other than that I have no other interior design ideas and I'm wondering whether I am missing the chance to create something much funkier with some simple tweaks e.g. I am considering a full sized wall mural on the wall opposite the mirror.

Any creative ideas gratefully received and / or smart storage solutions.

hi - you might find that having ( if the budget allows ) a round moving floor area for your equipment - it can be set up so that it turns around slow enough for you to always have the best view whichever piece of equipment you are on at the time ! failing that having two or three screens for video / TV feed on different walls can help ... also hanging a tall 'standing desk' high enough for you to work on a laptop or tablet while on mini stepper can be a good idea ! plan , plan and plan again until you know everything fits and works with space around to get on and off and space for a fridge full of cold water / can / energy drinks is a great idea too ! ( and a litter bin !) add a softer rubber matted area for free weights... oh and a whiteboard is a good idea to keep track of your timings / reps etc and steps up to a lower piece of equipment ( like a rowing machine ) can double up as step area for box jumps and tread work etc ! ( if you are into cross fit ) - sorry this is a bit of a disjointed message - I'm typing (crosseyed) on a small phone !!!

The fireplaces in the bedrooms are decorative. Living room is a real open fire and the study (with the wooden fireplace surround) has been converted to gas. We were lucky to acquire three of the fireplaces from the house directly across the road. They cost £500 which I thought was a bargain until I realised they would cost me £2,500 to restore them! The wooden surround was in the house when we bought it and we had to buy the cast iron insert. The surround is actually mahogany, I'm not actually that keen on it but couldn't bring myself to rip it out! I would get to know the neighbours and see what original features they have in their houses. Be careful with architectural salvage, for example salvaged doors if you need them have often been dipped in acid and the glue joints tend to fail after a while. We employed a conservation architect to restore the house and I felt his design was one which would stand the test of time. We had folding doors in our last house. These timber doors are bespoke made and look/feel quality. Just a bit more sophisticated.

Hi Gillian, it's very difficult and time consuming to learn how to use a rendering software. Even after knowing the basics it would take a lot of practice and extra learning to get professional and life-like results. Have a look around for night courses in your area, they may have an AutoCAD/Sketch Up one available if this is the route you're wanting to take. When I first started, I attempted to learn but found it was far too intricate and I just didn't have the time, I instead hired someone to do it for me. I would offer clients either a computer rendered photo of what the project will look like completed or a few drawings done by myself of what the completed project will look like. The mock ups done on AutoCAD I hired someone for would cost more for the client and would take 1-3 months to complete, as appose to the drawings that would take me a few days and were less expensive. What a fab room! I would swap the sideboard with the sofa. if you create a seating arrangement around the fire, maybe consider 1/2 swivel chairs in front of the doors so you can swivel to the garden view if wanted? Use a large rug to zone that area which will obviously help with the sound issue as would an oversized plant, maybe something like a nicolai strelitzia (not sure if spelling is correct so a wild banana!). You could add an arched floor lamp of sorts behind the sofa. One of my favourite lights is the vertigo pendant seen in a similar space. It also comes in black which would work with the doors. I think you need a feature of sorts on the fire wall. I’ve copied these links to give ideas. I’m not sure if i would but some of these spaces have curtains would look good and will help with sound. Books are also great for sound so maybe consider shelves? Hi I would like to set up a commercial Gym. The space I have I would want to put the following sections: weights section, Aerobics Section, Cardio Section Steam and Sauna and Bathrooms. Reception. and office. I would want to get advice on how to design and choice of colours and lighting.
