I need help choosing bricks & tiles

Hi, i'm building a house next year but i'm really struggling to decide what red bricks and tiles will look right. The council like clay tiles but i want to find something that looks similar but is cheaper still giving a traditional quality look that would link with the style without going for the most expensive option, and it seems to me to be a complete mind-field!

Any advice on this would be appreciated.

one idea that might work - keep your eyes peeled while you drive about - as might spot a great combination as you pass - So basically if I were you - I'd knock on the door of a place that looks fab and ask if you can snap a pic to get a match of bricks and tiles - then ask at your local builders merchant for a match . I had someone knock on my door once to ask what my exterior paint colour was - it's actually quite faltering to be asked - so I would imagine most proud home owner would be equally happy to help ! good luck !

Hi Caro, I have attached two images of wall paper that I think you compliment your kitchen. The green and blues in these wallpapers would harmonise with the existing titles and highlight the height of the room. From your ideas book it seems you like repeat patterns, both of these styles suggest a 60s feel whilst remaining contemporary. As you can see in the second photograph, the pattern and colours sit very well with the dark shiny worktop, similar to the one you mention putting in at a later date. I would take a look at marmoleum flooring, it can be very formal, subtle or eccentric your imagination is the only limit. It is environmentally friendly and easy to care for too. The houzz product tabs at the top of the page are well worth exploring and putting together ideabooks of looks that you like.

Thanks for your advice everyone. We thought about steps. The extension is 6m wide so I think instead of looking like a zoo it will be a theatre! It is worth considering though. We only want the deck as access to the garden really. Maybe no more than 2m. We will use the right hand side as a patio area. We didn't really want a deck but seems like it is the right solution to have folding doors straight out to the garden rather than having windows. If we had windows we wouldn't have to deal with this deck business!

It may be too late but don't ever replace Clay Tiles or Bricks with a Concrete equivalent, it's only slightly cheaper, yet the look, longevity and finish will diminish fair quicker than a natural product like clay???
