Walnut Wood for lounge diner??

Hi

Starting to gather idea's to refresh lour lounger diner.
We are currently thinking of Walnut furniture with maybe a glass round or oblong table.
The suite is staying in place the rest of the room will get refreshed.

Do you think this would be a good starting point?

yes I think walnut ( as in closer colour to sofa than floor ) will stand out beautifully !

You can change your furniture if you really want to, but it looks fine to me, I think the general atmosphere would be improved with a zippy choice of wallpaper, and some colourful curtains, there are some lovely autumnal designs in the Scandi chic style which are colourful and graphic, and which you can pick out colours for your sofa cushions and the odd vase or candle...

Hi. Can I assume you are opening up the original fireplace to install the log burner? are you also looking at a traditional wood burner? If so, I would build 3/4 very deep shelves in the recesses either side of the fireplace for decorative items and maybe to store the logs. Get 2 x 2 seater sofas and situate them opposite each other at each side of the fireplace. I would hang the tv on the wall over the fire and have a footstool coffee table between the sofas. Given you are wanting a wood burner with a sleeper I assume you like a traditional style so would have maybe a plaid/ tartan footstool. It's difficult to tell by the photos but I would turn the dining table around and move it away from the wall if you have the space. Decorate with muted shades and accessorise with heather, moss green etc. do you have to replace the carpet if you're taking the wall down as it looks nice? Space permitting, it would also be nice to add a lamp or 2. Floor length curtains would also look nice, is that a bay window you have??

Hi Julie. You could try a layout like this but make the longer part of the sofa against the ŵall opposite doors (you could try 2 sofas rather than L/chaise if wanted). I'd have the sofa 2/3 ft in front of the chimney breast. Use an accent chair as they have to the left of the fire and buy a big area rug for front feet of seating to sit on. Tv in the corner by the door. Hopefully that would work! Try drawing to scale or cutting out paper templates. It does slightly encroach on the dining end but that looks quite spacious? If budget allows I would remove the old chimney breast and shelf or at minimum the shelf and remove the wallpaper. Is it just painted behind the burner?

Hello, think I would go with the plain neutral colour curtains or a blind. Has the same problem with colour of sofa, it looked mid brown in shop, but when it turned up looked really dark. Also have a beige carpet. At first had beige walls but now are painted white, looks better, with one wall brown and beige patterned wallpaper from Osbourne and little (its beautiful but too grand for our semi). Have got one old red leather Ikea chair, which I quite like with the brownsofa so have 2 faded red cushions on sofa to tie in scheme. Medium grey rug suprisingly goes with everything! The wooden bookcases make it more homely and warm. Maybe not everyone's cup of tea but to me its cosy and comfortable!!

Hi Russell. It maybe worth considering employing an interior designer for a single room redesign for this space. You can then ensure everything with in the room works and can see it all in a 3D image before you commit to changes. You will also then gain help with trade discounts on purchases which can save you in the long run. There are plenty on here to look at so it maybe worth asking around. Looking at the space can you just confirm what it is behind the sofa? you say a partition.. is that to another room? If changed to glass would it effectively be a large window pane? If so what would than look onto? Grey with the royal blue sounds like a great base for the colour scheme and then one of the other vibrant colours for accessorising the space - this would allow you to change that additional colour at a later date if required, without needing to redo the whole space. A glass centerpiece above the table sound fab and would bounce and reflect light so would visually increase the size of the room as well as being clear so not distracting too much from the view through the space and out of the back windows. You would be best - budget wise - to look for this second hand on e-bay or Gumtree for something really unique or somewhere like Wayfair maybe reasonable for you.
