Table lamp/floor lamp or not

Hi All,

I am really stocked here... Attached a part pic of our kitchen/dining room. I was thinking about a lamp, but not sure ... What do you think?

Hi

Firstly I love the light over the table it's fab! I do think the lighting needs layering up a little and I would probably introduce a lamp on the work surface in the kitchen and possibly add some lovely lanterns on the breakfast bar with candles. Also, could you buy some temporary under cupboard lights and pop them under your breakfast bar? I know it may not be as good as integrated lighting but it may also enhance the ambience of your kitchen/dining room.
Another option could be to place a thin console table running along the wall and have a couple of small lamps there?

I'm happy you love the lamp:) Great ideas! Maybe I go with the console and the counter light first, and then we'll see...
I was also thinking about a mirror on the wall...

I have both including a stunning floor lamp that I wouldn't be without. It gives the whole room a soft glow from a dark corner and I have it on all day. The table lamps and lanterns, together with candles in the evening, make the room a wonderful space for relaxing. The lanterns by the fireside are surprisingly effective - a string of fairy lights wound around a silver birch log and placed inside a lantern. I've added moss, beads and some woodland creatures in one of them - quite magical! BTW I covered the lampshades too!

Tee hee, I think of it an updated classic minus that shade!! Have you looked at India jane? Some of them are quite reasonable. I pretty much like all of them but may not be your thing. Is the lamp to go on a table near where the boys play? Could you swap other lamps if you want glass? Or would a desk style brass lamp work, maybe a more modern retake? Or again I'm not sure it's your thing but you could have a ginger jar base and get a shade to match.

I'm typing with my laptop on a single bed/pouffe which I use as a coffee table with slip proof black waiters tray on when people come over. Re throws, you could fold them over an arm so they're handy when you want to snuggle up. Personally I literally 'THROW' mine and see where they land!!! I agree with everything Minnie says - as always, she's a wise and clever lady - and I would pull the corner sofa away from the back wall to just the other side of the bit of wall that juts out. Then you have the perfect space for an amazing lamp. Look at Wayfair or Not On The High Street as well as, of course, Houzz, under the lighting section. The other chair could be placed to face the garden as a reading chair if it doesn't obstruct your TV viewing, but I'd try it anyway as, if it looks good, the TV can be moved. Not sure if the TV is on a wall bracket but it might be worth doing that. Cushions with the same colours as the wall art would be good. I have a number of CYGNUS PAPILIO cushions by JOSEPH ALEXANDER GOODE. They also do bedding now so, if you're handy with a sewing machine, you could make a few cushion covers from one single duvet. It's a lovely room!

Thank you - argh that’s not good... I’ve already ordered the lamp and very large rug in the pics.. why are they still taking orders, will cross my fingers they come! Here’s pics of the lounge from a few weeks ago - the oak display cabinet and tv unit have since been replaced with the dark French style furniture. We are still waiting for the teal chair to be delivered so ignore the dark leather one. The dark leather ottoman has since been replaced with the grey bench. The side table there in the pics has since gone. And we will replace the floor and the new fireplace will go in as soon as lock down has lifted... can get more pics in the morning if that’s more helpful.

I thought a mirror too, it would bounce and reflect the chandelier beautifully.
