Furniture and colour to match solid oak flooring
Comments (12)In terms of the furniture you just want something in a colour to offset the floor ie darker wood, white/black lacquer or gloss or painted furniture. It's a good idea to tie the colours into the rooms. Have a look at farrow and balls grey colours and their colour suggestions. Maybe elephants breath in the hall and a light grey in the lounge with a darker shade in the dining room. You could also try a feature wall in a darker shade if wanted. (Do make sure the rooms have enough light to carry the grey though) Go for a darker grey sofa and maybe try either white, silver and black accessories and furniture. Or if you want it warmer add pale pinks or mauves but don't have more than 60% of the rooms in grey. Try a large drum or sphere pendant or chandelier for the ceiling and add a statement floor lamp in each room ie arc, angle poise or tripod/movie. If you add table lamps keep them simple as the room may not take 3 statement lights. Hang the light low over the dining table and you could also try the same with a chair or sofa. Unfortunately I can't find pics that tie this all in together. Do have a look at the website madeaboutthehouse and their 50 shades of grey which may give you ideas....See MoreWhite kitchen - Matt or gloss? Help....
Comments (15)You have all been very helpful, I think on balance I am leaning toward Matt, I have looked back at my insipration photos and the majority are matt, coupled with potential issues with keeping gloss clean and marks ..... and the genius idea from daisy England of those magic sponges to tackle Matt marks, I think I have myself a decision! Comments (4)Douglas Fir but the classic not natural and Dinesen with extra long and wide planks and soap & lye, light finish. We're looking into this but it's quite a commitment both in terms of additional cost, fitting and maintenance so currently very torn between this and engineered ash which is substantially cheaper/easier but doesn't quite seem to have the character....See MoreBleached Walnut & Matt white kitchen...which floor?
Comments (10)I think that these cabinets are a nice choice and I think wood has a natural warm ness so hubby shouldn’t worry it will look cold. Most likely he means that it is too pale for his taste but of course you can add colour to the wall later if he still feels that way. Perhaps you can find a wallpaper you like for a feature wall in the snug. I also liked some of the concrete style tile suggestions. For me I am not keen on kitchen layout particularly the oven position and the peninsula. I think the peninsula cuts in half an otherwise spacious room and is a barrier to accessing your fridge and oven. To me it feels like you missed the opportunity to make the kitchen feel bigger and the kitchen is probably occupying a very similar position to the outgoing one even though walls have moved. Personally I think you should be investigating a plan where your oven and fridge are towards the area you have put a breakfast bar. If you have longer runs of units this helps you see the wide drawers which is a particular feature of this contemporary kitchen. You could also increase the distance between the sink and the hob which is of course your working area. Personally I think the room would be feel bigger without the shown peninsula breakfast bar and instead a bistro table by the garden doors....See MoreTani H-S
