Mixing wood tones (floor/ furniture/ fire surround)?
Comments (10)Very interesting comments Bagpuss, thank you. I guess its not too late to change the furniture order! I would have never thought to use ivory furniture so that's definitely something to think about and I'm all for bringing in more light. I am planning ivory furniture for our living room, hallway and bedroom too (I love ivory furniture), so thought we'd do something different in the dining room. The walls are light too (off white/ nearly ivory) - that's another issue as I'm not sure that colour is suitable or needs to be changed. I actually thought (hoped!) the Mango furniture would create a contrast with the flooring as opposed to a clash and there are some (albeit few) darker tones in the mango furniture that match the flooring so there is a bit of a connection (or so I thought). And it sounds like I'll definitely need to rethink the fireplace altogether!...See MoreDining table - Stay or Go?
Comments (22)Isn't it great when you post a plan, it all becomes clearer. Was going to suggest what Jen P has, Makes for a much better layout. Not sure what dimensions you have for the Orangery, what extensions you may have had in the past or what you may get away with under permitted development further. But...................do you have the ability to fill in the corner of dining area and then build the Orangery? It makes for a better shaped room. I'd also go for bi-folds where possible so that you can to in and out / open out etc...See Morefire place surround needs to go!
Comments (8)My vision for this project would be to use slate surround and black fireplace hearth with materials like limestone or granite. This will make the fireplace a statement piece in your room, as opposed to eye popping element. The stove needs updating but it will still work as soon as the tiling is removed. This is my personal preference but I'd go for solid materials; colours - black fireplace or grey fireplace (just a few materials to generate ideas) to give the existing fireplace a total makeover. Are you considering changing the wall paper? A plain or textured one would work best no patterns)? What do you think?...See MoreWhat should we do with our garden? Or should we leave it?
Comments (6)Thanks sksj1, I didn't realise this could be done. We haven't managed to get a configuration that works for us yet and the outward bifold doors stops us putting the dining table under the covered area as you have to move the whole lot out of the way each time you open the bifolds. Will explore this further. Thanks....See Morerab111
