Need ideas for side tables and lamps in living room

Hello all,
In the middle of furnishing our new house and open plan living room is proving difficult! Luckily we have been able to re-use most of our old furniture in our new layout. However my big grey sofa looks a bit lost on that white wall with the window above and I feel it could do with a side table + lamp on either side to 'fill it up' a bit (see attached pictures). But I've got absolutely no idea what to go for!! Simple contemporary table? Introduce a new colour with the table lamps or not? Any ideas welcome! Thank you so much :-)

Comments (12)Hi Laura. Congratulations on the new home! Have you thought about putting the sofa on the back wall and moving the TV to where the sofa is? I think it would work nicely with the shelves. You can then add a floor lamp and picture gallery on the back wall similar to what's pictured with a tall potted plant in the other corner to make a nice focal point. I'd go for a pale grey For the walls, dulux dusted moss 2 is nice but check undertones with your sofa. Your dining chair looks more of a deep coral so would bring a little in for cushions (maybe white and coral patterned to lighten the sofa) and also some texture, a faux sheepskin is always good for a scandi look. You could then add splashes of green or blue for art etc. Some faux stems would be great on the dining table (I like cox and cox's eucalyptus in their glass bottle vase for something simple and they give height). Hard to tell from table pics but could you add an arc light to zone the dining area as you don't have any ceiling lights? Comments (2)Hi Sassy G, It's great how much natural light you are getting into this space from the patio doors and the light fixtures and fittings will help create the feel of a bigger space. For the Living Area: I would suggest a 2 seater against the back wall (as per your plan) and a small coffee table in front with your 2 cocktail chairs facing inwards. This helps create the feel of a separate living area but also accommodates for additional seating for guests. Or instead of the 2 cocktail chairs you could have an upholstered storage bench which doubles up as storage as well as seating. This is also great because it keeps the openness of the space. For the Kitchen: For the splashback I think a high gloss teal finish would look lovely here. It adds a splash of colour, its bright (but not too bright) and different and would look great against your current worktop. Paint ideas: Having an off white colour is a good choice for the living and dining area. You could also try two different paint colours for each of these rooms to help break up the space or incorporate a feature all paint colour such as Farrow and Ball 'Peignoir'. Comments (4)Wow, what a big space! What is great here is that you have lots of room to play with. It really depends on what style you are going for. However here are some ideas! For the entrance way, a lovely console table would be a wonderful addition against the opposite wall to the door. Something reflective to help keep the place looking bright! This could be decorated with some accents like some bright flowers that really pop against the neutral wall. Maybe a little tray to put your keys and purse in as well! Can't see the space behind the door however maybe a statement coat hanger? Or it could even be placed in the left corner, near the double doors. For the living room space, I would keep the white chesterfield sofa and build around that. Comments (3)Here you go, had to guess some of the dimensions of the apartment, but it's roughly correct, I think. Used the dimensions of your sofa. Used a 150 x 45 cm TV unit. Dining table 90 cm. Hope it helps. You have about 65-70 cm between the back of the sofa and the balcony door. My advise is to get creative with paper and/or tape and put the dimensions of your sofa down on the floor in the apartment. It will give you an idea of how much space it leaves to walk around. It's rather large for the size of the room, but I do like it and if you go for a light colour, it might just work. Try it out with paper or tape before you buy. What would you think about using a combination of 2 small ethnic side tables? One in wood to bring a warm touch and one metallic to compliment your tray and your metallic cushions? Attached are 2 from Maisons du Monde. And I think those would look gorgeous with this delicate floor lamp from Habitat...
I agree with jwinnyc, it would be awkward to have them under the TV, but I think they would look perfect on the left side of your sofa.
On the right side, what about 2 more baskets where you could put magazines, throws... ? The one you already have there is giving a lovely natural touch, but it feels a bit lonely. You could also add a medium sized plant..

Your home looks lovely, so huge congrats, the lines are really clean.
I like your thinking about adding in a counterpoint colour, I searched out orange lamps for you as these could add that extra note and if you got the shades right it would potentially bring a glow to the room in the evenings.
Anyway it's just a thought.
