Hi, I am doing a extension and will have a narrow living room, could you tell me how wide your room is, so I know weather I can do what you have done. Thanks Neel

Front room for me! we have three rooms opened into one large living space, this is great when you have a large family. I still say front room, but mainly to describe the location of say my book or glasses if I'm am asking somebody to fetch them for me. It makes for a quicker find :)

I have Windows floor to ceiling both ends of my lounge and only one complete empty wall the opposite wall ,has large double doors with small walls each side. I find small pieces of furniture more suited to keep the feeling of light and space. I purchase a large sofa with a chaise end totally took up to much space and looked awful.

Thank you for your response. We had plans pretty finalised until we found out that we can keep just that long wall into the large space as it is a load-bearing. There is an opportunity to put a door in though. I am attaching what it looked like with all the walls that we can now remove. We have also been tinkering with ideas which I am adding as well. I added some comments on the plans as well. What we want to have is a dining area with a large table that seats 8-10 people. We want enough space for two people to work and cook in the kitchen. Thus, we were thinking of an island or an L-shape workspace coming out. We'd like to have a utility room to have space for all the cleaning utensils. Washer and Dryer will be upstairs in a separate laundry room. The living room is nothing formal but an area to relax and watch TV. We'd like to have an L-shaped cough in there for a family of four (2 kids under the age of 10).

Going for a white sofa would help create a light and airy living room. The white sofa would match the airy elements you already have in the room: the light pastel wallpaper and blue chimney heart, the white skirting, the light coloured wooden flooring. The black of the fireplace hearth can be tied together with details like black legs for the white sofa, black legs (maybe hair pin legs) for a white coffee table or for a cabinet (cabinets with legs look very smart: https://www.buzzfeed.com/alisoncaporimo/legs-for-days). Black cross legged lounge chair & ottoman in a navy blue would match the navy curtains. See through furniture helps for an uncluttered feel: transparent chairs, glass table, thin furniture legs, x leg ottomans. The window coverings also have to be in light materials. Consider introducing flowy sheer fabric with or instead of the navy curtains. White or light pastel coloured area rugs in the room and avoid choosing area rugs featuring heavy and busy patterns.
