How do you think about this room?
Comments (7)As before, large long folding room screen. With some detailed pattern in which ever colourway you choose.. Any light colour will go with black, but needs to be mid-light colour, lime green, bright red , teal, orange , raspberry deep pink. Not brown or purple of navy. Choose 1 main light colour + add rugs throws lamps + wall prints, other wall deco - clock mirror in this light colour. Then add in a deep shade eg deep-pink + purple, lime + forest green, etc + add smaller cushions, 1 small throw etc. table can be decorated with utensils + ware in your colours. Large storage boxes + containers in light colour, smaller storage items darker colour. Any new shelving units again in the chosen colourway - painted if need be. Most essential in bed-sit accommodation is at least 2 laundry type bins (coloured) to throw untidied items into in a hurry, clothes, books, makeup etc. also a large matching coloured plastic bucket for carrying all crockery to + from cooking area.stack into bucket to clean table + bring to kitchen when it suits....See MoreHow much space do you think I'll need?
Comments (3)often there is a legacy effect of a structure like a conservatory and people tend to build out in the same place- It would be good to know how much room is at the side because you could knock the kitchen and utility together then build a new utility on the side. If you could post the whole house plan and a picture of the back I am sure that people will have ideas. As far as photo inspiration goes there are literally thousands of images on this site. Look at the photos and save the ones you like....See Morethinking through room enfilade - how would you do this?
Comments (9)I still think that you can embrace bolder colours and should consider bold coloured walls a frame for your furniture and art. I hope that the enclosed pictures illustrate that if the dark colour represents less than 50% of the total surfaces in the room the room still feels bright. In fact I think that contrast has the crisp modern feel you wanted. So in your middle room that has reasonable light if you painted the walls a bold colour, the wood work and coving a shade of white and then the ceiling and the wall above the picture rail a pale grey on balance the room will have more light than dark (especially when you add in curtains and furniture and cover some of the wall with pictures and mirrors). Likewise if you painted your whole kitchen a deep colour a lot of it would be covered with cabinets and the deep colour will frame the furniture. So I think that you should have courage to paint your island and canopy a dark shade and a mid tone colour for at least one wall in the kitchen. You hallway is the least light space. You can play safe with a pale colour but in my opinion painting a room white doesn’t increase the light. Consider a mid tone colour confident that there will be well balanced as most hallways have lots of doors and other woodwork that you can paint in the white of your choice....See MoreHow do I use an Atrium Space
Comments (3)Hi Nia inWales, it would be great to see a floorplan to help advise further. From looking at the photos, it looks like a great space and the flooring adds warmth. Perhaps an armchair or two with a sideboard, mirror above to bounce the light around with lamps to layer the lighting. A floorplan would be great to see how much space there is.
