The perfect white but not stark white paint - UK.

Does it exist?? Love something that is not yellow at all - for bedrooms and hallway. Hallway needs to be robust (ie cleanable) as have small people. Definitely want to do all white - but something that won't give us snow blindness!

Also - do we do ceilings same colour white? And woodwork?

All in all have four bedrooms/two landings/hallway/two flights of stairs and two bathrooms to do! Any advice gratefully received.

Might be good to check out Indian White by Dulux, always used to use this on the woodwork when we were designing show homes. It's not dazzling like pure white, just a more sophisticated white! http://heritage.trade-decorating.co.uk/inspiration/beautiful_trim_with_indian_white.jsp

Lou, from personal experience, the best paints for halls are those made for bathrooms and kitchens, as they are harder to scratch and wipe-able :)) Or that Diamond Tough from Dulux; you can also wash the walls painted in it - best even, buy the Trade Diamond. I'm no paint specialist, but I tend to like Dulux light&space; they are all pale coloured off whites. Our kitchen is painted in Dulux Pacific Breeze but nobody can tell, they think is white until they look at where the wall meets the ceiling. Personally, I like the ceilings matt white, white satin for woodwork. The only things I'd paint the same colour as the walls are the radiators - to make them blend in.

I like Crown's Sail White in a Matt Emulsion. We have used it in several rooms and it has worked everywhere. It does not have a grey, pink or yellowy undertone and would go well with pebble grey.

Beautiful house! How about taupe? Or white and paint the wooden bits pale grey? First picture below is a local pub but they recently painted over the Tudor black and white look for the grey and i think it looks lovely!

Thank you so much for your advice - I am so pleased you have recommended dulux trade and not other expensive brands! We have got timeless in one room downstairs, and will go and get some samples tomorrow of the colours you suggest. I have loads of matt brilliant white so hoping that will be for ceilings - was worried if I did them brilliant white, and the walls a different colour the walls would look 'dirty' in comparison.

I have painted quite a few walls with Super Leytex Matt which is available from Screwfix. It leaves a lovely chalky pure white finish, like the white-washed finish of Mediterranian houses. To my eyes at least it is a pure but not harsh white that really works, and it is also very cheap with. As a benefit it also helped visually disguise many inperfections in our walls.
