Comments (6)MDF and softwood is fine. Ideally mdf should be edged or treated with shellac to prevent fluffy finish. However, the look is in the considered detail. There are several things you need to note on the one you like which will make all the difference to a good design. 1. The increased thickness of the shelves and cabinet uprights. 2. The door frame thickness should be in ratio to its width otherwise it will look too meagre 3. The inset moulding will be better as a belechion moulding to prevent visible cracking in the paintwork on the softwood. ( sometimes used with fielded panels ) 4 Where possible it is better to use the existing skirting detail as the kick-plate all around the design to meet up with the existing skirting 5. In this design 'laid on' doors would give an inferior look to inset doors with hinge butts. Unfortunately the doors have to be square and plumb for this to work ,which may challenge some carpenters. 6. The handles should suit the design and should not be placed at the top of the door . 7. The correct crown moulding and working top edging, although not immediately noticeable will make all the difference....See MoreLights above book shelves
Comments (3)Hi , A simple option that we use quite a lot is to fit a timber pelmet and install deck-lights . They can be wired in or simply plugged in a socket . The hardest part is drilling a hole for the lights to go through. Regards Michael...See MoreDoes the wall with bookshelves feel unbalanced?
Comments (11)I always put tall things on the left anyway but I’d move the lamp the other side of the chair as it looks as if it has its back to the bookcase which feels a bit odd for a reading area. I’d also try the rug under one or two of the front feet. Perhaps also rearrange the books so you don’t have that big block of pinks adjacent to the art?...See MoreLuciana
