Losing the will to live with grey carpets...!!

I am looking for a light grey, neutral carpet for my new house but all I seem to be able to find is silver. I'd prefer something much more neutral & 'matte' ...! It is for a whole new house (bedrooms, living room, etc)

There is a carpet called Portland from Brintons, but is out of price range. We need to find one that is under £22 p.m. because we need so much of it.

Can someone help?

Best colour I have found is "Silver Sands" by Ryalux. Not sure how much it is though. Am looking at over a dozen shades of grey carpet samples, so you have my sympathy. It's a much trickier colour to get right than the oatmeal/ beige tones, I'm finding. Keep us posted.

Don't think Ryalux will be in you price range, so if you don't mind manmade fibres try Cormar they have lots in various ranges from
Luxury to shorter pile lots of greys to choose from and about £21.00 upwards

I think i would have looked to stripping the floor too, but a nice overlayed wooden floor would be good. Try to steer away from the black and grey, it's going to look very cold. The T.V should be to the right of the Chimney breast and not on it. Otherwise the T.V becomes the focus not the fireplace. You also need to inject some warmth with an accent colour. Fiddes hard wax oil is great for floorboards Fiddes Either way with the floor you'll need a rug to add warmth and luxury back into the room, so go for thick and plush, I too like the grey one above.

Joanne, I'm so happy I came across you're post, as I'm having the same dilemma. I have just bought my first house and have painted my living room in cornforth white. I have a similar layout to your living room, with the fireplace and shaker alcove doors. Problem is, I can't find a carpet that compliments the paint. If you want something a little softer then Mustard and grey can work well, you could use a bold mustard or a pale one depending on tastes. Same goes for pink and grey. Decide what paper style you like, Modern, bold, small print, large print, stripes, flowers??? Then work from there. You may be inspired with the colour scheme if you find a paper you like. For instance if you just google 'pink grey wallpaper' and look at images, this comes up:- If that's not to your liking try 'mustard grey wallpaper' They just help by giving you an idea of what you might like and what goes with what.

We ended up going with Cormar after all, the Primo Ultra range in 'Cloudy Bay'. It's what I would call 'greige'... if you put brown things on top of it, it would pick the brown / beige and if you chose grey things, it would pick out grey.

Ryalux was definitely out of budget, but we got a fantastic deal from a carpet shop called Mayjay Flooring in Elsecar, Barnsley on the Cormar. They were fantastic and had plenty of choice (and patience) for us!
