Need help on design/size of skirting boards and archetrave?

Hi, I'm renovating a 3 storey 60's town house in Belsize Park. Can anyone please urgently advise me on skirting board & archetrave? How do you decide on the height of the skirting & what sort of look should I go for? We're doing up the house as contemporary and will paint the walls white throughout. The wall height is 2.5 metres. Txs so much

I'm far from a specialist, but my instinct is - don't go too small. The reason being, walls by themselves are boring, you need to add interest and picture/ dado rail, skirting and coving do that.
For skirting board, I wouldn't go less than 18 cm, architrave depends on your door height.

I would suggest that it's impossible to give professional advice that can be relied upon without full measurements and details. For this reason, I'd suggest you contact a professional in your area (Houzz has a great pro directory) and let them know your needs. Perhaps sit with them and discuss at length your seating requirements, lifestyle, functional uses for the space, and have them work out a floor plan for you with measurements that you can use to shop yourself. This is usually an inexpensive service and will yield much more usable results than posing the question on Houzz discussions thread. For instance, have you thought about whether or not you want a desk in the space for doing bills or using your laptop more conveniently? Have you thought about whether there might be use for a game table, or one where your kids (if you have them...) could do homework or eat snacks, or what you can use as a buffet during large parties. When you complete a renovation like this, you have to determine how the space will now be used and incorporated into your life. Without doing this you will likely buy the wrong type of furniture for your needs. A designer should and would discuss all these details with you, look around the rest of your house, make suggestions, and give you an accurate, professional floor plan to work from. Have you ever considered a real interesting eye catching piece of art work to really brighten up an area, I think a select piece of art would really make the space stand out, add interest, colour, texture and add a great talking point to the room.... Hey Nisha! I love your Option 4 and what a fab design- looks amazing!!! I think Option 4 has lots of space and flow through the room without having to walk around furniture and is a great adult space with formal and informal dining with the addition of the breakfast bar. If little people do come along in the future and you need a play space when they're a little bit older, you can always whip out the breakfast bar and move the table up closer to the kitchen at that point- it's a lovely flexible design. In the meantime Option 4 feels light and open and spacious and looks fab to me. What a long way you've come since your first post! How exciting!

Hello, What a great space! We have some products that may be of interest, both tiles and wood flooring. Two that spring to mind from our natural stone range are our Dijon Tumbled Limestone and our Dove Grey Tumbled Limestone, both are very popular in kitchens and I think would suit your kitchen colours and the look that you are wanting to create. The Dijon starts from only £37 per sqm, and the Dove Grey a bit more from £50 per sqm, inc VAT. If you wanted something really rustic, a tumbled travertine could work - our Light Tumbled Travertine or Country Mix Tumbled Travertine would work brilliantly in your space. Starting from £26 per sqm and £20 per sqm respectively. If you would prefer wood, our entire Planks & Parquet range can be used with underfloor heating, and wood would create a real feeling of warmth in the space. The other option would be a combination of the two! So wood effect porcelain tiles, such as our Reclaimed Oak Porcelain. Hi again, how practical is your artelinea sink? I love it - it's gorgeous but somebody told me that because it's glass it needs a lot of maintenance cos it shows the watermarks, so you have to dry it after cleaning. How have you found it?

Mine is pretty easy - that's why we went with the 'milky' colour :)) and not the black or bright red. The only time I can see water marks is actually in the evening, in artificial light, or when we're back from abroad and there's dust everywhere :))
It does show toothpaste stains after hubby brushes his teeth in a hurry (otherwise he's been trained to rinse :)) but that would happen no matter what finish the sink is in. I think that because the glass is so thick it becomes almost matt (like a porcelain).

To be very honest, I rarely dry it - only when I change the towels and use one to just wipe the sink before I throw it in the hamper. I'm not very fussy and just plain lazy (!!) but I would tell you if it was an issue; honestly, for me, it's not!

PS: and I don't stage my photos either.
