Textured wall panels - plaster of MDF...?

What are the pros and cons of using the wall panels made from mdf vs the plaster variety?

Pro's of MDF :
less expensive as can DIY
Doesn't move
Easy to paint
Quick to do

Cons:
Its so simple to do - getting someone else in to do it is pure indulgence !!!

Plan it on paper and ask your local dIY shed to cut the MDF to size ! Then tack it on the wall ! Fill the tack holes and paint ! Hey presto - job done

Hi Sharon, why not install an interesting victorian wall panelling? Like the one on the link below and photos attached. You can paint it in any colour and it’s an elegant, contemporary solution for English bathrooms. hi Jamie, I see the problem you have with the doors opening. if you mark the 18- 20mm space allowing the doors to open you can have the skirting against the mdf and mitre it to finish at the door line. I also think the cupboard will look nice with a framed architraves which would solve the problem completely. hope the options help!! best Rowland

Hannah W yes the blocked wall was double doors, part glazed. I couldnt tell you a cost I’m afraid as my husband blocked up the wall, he’s not a professional (we can see the outline on the other side 😁) but it didn’t take too long and was just a case of some stud work, plasterboard and plastering (my husband can plaster too as he did a course years ago to cut down labour costs rather than have tradesmen in).

I hated wallpaper with a passion too…then thanks to having the first Covid lockdown putting a full stop to my kitchen renovation before the walls were re plastered and tiling done, found myself trying out removable wallpaper to hide the mess. I even used it behind my hob. It is honestly fabulous stuff- I got so many compliments once people could see it and it held up well. You could try it out as a test for “real” wallpaper or whatever other materials you are considering, and your husband could see if he can live with it… or even might like it.
