I need some ideas for my new Kitchen..

I'm starting from scratch, I will post some pictures of the room. A few years ago I had an ivory shaker style Kitchen in my old house and loved it. The kitchen where I am now looks like something out of the 70's! So needs some TLC. Just wondering what was out there at the moment and see what people have done in their own homes!

When the kitchen is the heart of the home it can really get you down when it's in desperate need of updating.

From your ideasbook it looks like you are leaning towards a fresh neutral shaker style kitchen, the same as you had before and if that's what you love why mess with it.

I would say think a little about what works well with the style of house as well and try and get something that fits well with it. This means it not only sits well with the architecture of the building but when you came to sell doesn't jar with future purchasers. A kitchen is a big investment so it best it works hard for you both while you own it and when you came to sell. If you want it just for yourself and aren't worried about future buyers then maybe a color on your units would bring a fresh edge to something you already love.

Hi, what is your budget? Before starting to look for a brand new kitchen, are the cabinet doors painted? You can have them updated quickly with Farrow&Ball paint and new more modern hardware. Or you can also just replace the cabinet doors and leave the shell as it is. Also just retiling the backsplash and having more contemporary worktop makes a massive difference. In terms of materials marble, resins, porcelain tiles, granite are all very popular options. I'm happy to help further but would need more info. If you're still keen on a flexible-function room (i.e. where the middle internal space works as a guest bedroom or family space for example playroom, snug TV room, office, hobby room), my suggestion would be to use pocket internal doors; and/or glazed internal french doors. Then most of the time the doors can be open and part of the open-plan. Then when using the the space as a guest bedroom, the doors could have roller blinds or curtains, to separate the space and add privacy. Consider which way you want the "flexi room" to open up. Rather than open up to the side of the house (near proposed cloakroom); I think it would be nicer if the room opens into the back room or the front room (likely to be much nicer views and better light).

Hello Isabel, If you made box shelving (cubby holes) for each pair of shoes etc, then it will not look untidy.. If you have that already in a walk in closet, then it needs to serve another purpose.. Perhaps you have a secret room.. Safe, or hidden compartment... Or... conceal it as you say.. : ))

hello, it depends on how much of it you want to change, we've all been there, decorated a room or something, then changed our minds a year later, so I'm of the view that basic colours work the best...I've done it with many gardens keep the colours basic then add on..you could do as little as spend £50 to transform your garden. If your house was mine and I had an unlimited budget I'd concrete and paint the wall white, put a palm where the shrub is in a white square planter, and repaint the woodwork, I do like the idea of grey but it would depend on if you are keeping it all the same colour. I don't agree with the Tudor comments, your house is quite new, why would you want it to look old..but of course we all have different tastes... Personally I love buildings painted white, fresh looking concrete with tropicals in the garden, I have a 6 foot Australian tree fern and bananas in my garden, there's nothing like sitting out there in the summer, I love it...
