Kitchen diner feature wall

Wanting to decide on a colour to paint a feature wall (currently green) in our kitchen diner. We are getting red, Maroon and beige curtain am with similar colours on chair covers. We want to try the Risky option which is red, safe option the beige. Rest of room is biscuit colour. Any thoughts?

Why not go for Blackboard paint ! And write crazy messages on it !!

Dining rooms are usually the least attractive and neglected rooms, how about something interesting like a wall mural?!

Yes we needed an RSJ and all of the walls underpinning as there were no foundations. Was very costly but definitely worth it as we live in that end of the house. I think that With having an older property, costs do just spiral. I can’t remember how much the RSJ was, sorry. i think our building work was about £25000. Can you leave the fireplace in and have it open so you can see it from both sides? Then have your kitchen and dining in the current lounge and your living area where it is at the moment but open it up apart from the firePlace? We’ve left in our old exposed stone work and cleaned it up.

New Kitchen, creating an open diner by taking down the wall

Dear All, Just bought a house that is need of a complete refurbishment, lucky me, it’s also going to be my first home It needs a new kitchen, pics enclosed are self-explanatory. My plan was also to knock down the wall between the diner and kitchen, to create an open diner. The building survey advised me to put up a supporting beam. Cut and pasted that below “There is no masonry wall directly above this area however, there is a masonry wall separating the bathroom and bedroom, which is approximately 1.0 m away from the lower masonry wall in question and if the wall is removed, a supporting beam will be needed in this location to prevent any downward settlement of any of the internal walls and floors above”. However the structural Engineer says this is not required, which was a little confusing. His opinion is cut and pasted below “We do not consider the Surveyor should have commented on this area as this is more of an engineering function. We checked floor joists at first floor level, and they ran from front to rear consequently there is no load from floors or imposed loads from floors onto the dividing wall. The wall at first floor level however is a masonry wall consequently if the wall is to be removed between the kitchen and dining area, we would advise a steel beam is incorporated beneath the remaining wall at first floor level in accordance with current recommendations for adequate support of the first-floor area” Any advice on how to go about a new kitchen. Is it better to get a local tradesman to do it, or hire a big company? Anyone has taken such walls down? Any advise would be much appreciated Kind Regards Mel

Hi everyone, I’m new to Houzz and we just moved into a partially finished renovation project last Friday. We have a lovely kitchen diner with a grey kitchen - dark grey cupboards, grey tiles marble work surface and grey laminate. My husband and I are having discussions trying to choose a paint colour to go with the kitchen but not be too dark in the living room bit. Any ideas on what colours might add warmth without being too daring (I’m more of a neutral girl myself) would be very welcome

Hi Ellie, we’re lacking furniture right now!! The plan is to have a new bigger sofa, a tv and the boys PS4 down here but we have a separate living room at the front too. The living area bit is a bit dark though as no windows but two bifolds in kitchen diner so it is sunny!
