Comments (47)The thing to bear in mind is that you need a defra exempt stove if you are planning to burn wood in a smokeless zone, but there are loads available. I would let the installer deal with with the hearth along with the flue liner when it is installed. I have an open fire with a gas tray fitted and its great and also a stove which I love but as people say does throw out a lot of heat. Comments (8)Thanks Gary. That's what we were thinking. It may explain why the people who installed it only used it once a year! I'll have a look into the electric fan if not i may have the surround removed as the brick inside all looks fine from what I can see (not much room!) I was originally looking just to remove the burner and replace with a traditional grate but hadn't realised I would need to have the flue changed which may be a dearer option than I first thought. In terms of wood, I used kiln dried ash on the first couple of attempts as had read in several places that it was the "gold" of wood, although have since read an article by an expert that has suggested it's overrated so we're just using kiln dried hardwood from the garden centre atm but no idea what type of wood it is....See MoreWould you put a log burner in or ainsert gas fire
Comments (5)Be be realistic- got great advice from a show room that sold both..... What hours do u work? When do u plan to use it? Evenings or weekends? My hubby wanted log burner. We both work full time. Not home til after 6 in evening. We were advised gas. Told by the time we lit log burner, it Wud b bedtime b4 it was at full pelt. Comments (15)Ok, thanks for your thoughts. Styles have clearly moved on since I bought this and the same mirror in black that I have in my other room, about 10 years ago. I used to have this mirror in my daughter's room in our 1906 mid terrace and it looked great in there but now her room is styled in a woodland theme with scallops and a forest mural so it no longer goes. Even in our room, there is no where for it as there are enough mirrors with the dressing table and wardrobes. Either way, I'm still just playing around trying to suss out this rooms style so all thoughts are helpful. I do like the circular mirrors. I've put the screws in the wall to take a smaller mirror so will see what I can do....See More
