Can marmoleum flooring be painted?

I've got a past it's best marmoleum tiled floor in the bathroom. Sound just marked. Was thinking of painting and varnishing. Anyone tried it please?

Well now, that needs a bit assistance and some life injected into it doesn't it! Yes it's a dire plan, However, i do feel it could quite cheaply be improved. Let's work with the grey and the beautiful rustic brown of the wooden doors. I can't see a pic of the sink, but it will work well with the theme. I'd bang out all the cupboards on the cooker side and construct out of reclaimed wood an 'open kitchen' with shelving top and bottom. You can then open up the corner and create a lot more space. Excuse the rudimentary 'ms paint plan', but hopefully you'll get the idea. You can add big old baskets if you wish, coloured pots and pans, all sorts to add a splash of colour and warmth. Paint the cupboards on the bottom a good dark grey to compliment the Stove and get a bit of depth going. I love the idea of the mustard and it works brilliantly with grey. I'd have the same dark grey of the kitchen units on the range wall, with a mustard back drop and more rustic shelves. The vinyl flooring idea of yours is great, warmer to walk on, easily cleaned and affordable. It's difficult to get someone to see your ideas in just words, but hopefully you'll be getting what i mean. Here are some pics

Do you know what wood the parquet is made from? If I was you I would move my sofa and sand back a bit of the floor that will be covered by furniture. Then I would be able to see the kind of colour I'm trying to work with. I would say if both floors are going to be a mid to light colour it would be best to get as close a match as possible colour wise. I have two slightly different oak floors at home and it does look a little weird where they join (but then they are different plank sizes too). It just depends how particular you are. Did you know you can get bamboo parquet? If you are not too precious about the old parquet floor I would suggest that after sanding back you stain it in a colour to match with your new bamboo floor, then even if the two floors are a different design the difference won't be glaringly obvious.

I would also add a denim blue to the list of possible colours for this room. However, to lift the space I would have a cabinet to move all cleaning gear out of sight and replace the plastic soap bottle with nice soap in a dish. For the wall opposite the sink maybe wooden floating shelves with a small plant, essential oil in a nice dish etc. Alternatively some wall art, which could be as simple as some nice pictures you've taken printed in black and white and framed. A patterned bath mat which fits in with the wall colour would break up the colour blocking and introduce some life.

You could add a thin layer of epoxy resin on top - that will last quite a bit!

Actually, I worked as a scenic artist for 30 + years using lots of acrylic/vinyl paint. I have a hunch acrylic paint would bond well to clean, slightly sanded vinyl/linoleum flooring. You would want to use porch and deck paint for sure, but I think it would work out. I happened across a website that was a diy info on painting vinyl floors. I googled 'painting linoleum floor'.
