Need help with the dining area in my kitchen
Comments (44)What a beautiful and perfect table you found! Hubba hubba - those legs are just gorgeous. Well done and thanks for calling out to me. As for the chair mix, I think four beige and two merlot would be lovely. I think you like a traditional look, so I'm a bit worried that you won't be happy with it. If the table will normally be smaller with four beige chairs around it and maybe put the two merlot ones on either side of the radiator cover/"console", then definitely do the mix. Mismatched chairs around a dining table are often all different or the same make and model in a multitude of colours or the same colour in different styles. Do a Houzz search and see if you can find your planned mix and if you like the look. If in doubt, get four beige and look at them for a while! You could tie the two chair colours together with little cushions on the chairs - maybe just on the two merlot ones. Both of these are too big, I think, but the colours are good. http://www.notonthehighstreet.com/reasonhome/product/pondicherry-flower-silk-cushion-cover http://www.notonthehighstreet.com/emmalonsdale/product/chit-chat-rectangular-cushion This one might be the right size: http://www.notonthehighstreet.com/jennysibthorp/product/lobster-pot-screen-printed-natural-linen-cushion I covet the table already so I can't wait to see him all polished up.......See MoreExtension kitchen layout wobbles.......can anyone offer advice?
Comments (36)Brilliant things to consider Minnie thank you. Only 4 of us in the house, and we do have a seperate dining room. I only want casual bar stool seating for the kitchen but am struggling with where else to place 4 bar stool. Haven't got the width of room to have them all down the side of island facing the wall of units, plus I really like the sleek look of an island and didn't want to interupt that streamlined look by having seating around one end in an L shape. Can't thing of any other option unless someone can thing of something to consider I'd be very grateful. I had my heart set on a mirror splash back but got put off as people said I would have water marks on it all the time from the sink.....is that everyone's experience of a mirror splashback or might I have made a hasty judgement? I was thinking of a washed light grey oak type flooring or a warm oak flooring but was worried if I went for oak ( this would be my colour preference) that it wouldn't work as I will have nothing else oak in the room. It's a south facing room, sun all day and evening so was thinking of a off white light grey tone on the walls and lots of chrome......again struggling to know how to incorporate that and what to put with it colour/ accent/ decor wise to make it feel comfy and not clinical. I'd love dark coloured glass slider but all windows in house are white so I had discounted it. Minnie thanks a million for taking the time on your bumpy train journey to post, I cannot tell you how grateful I am to have your input...See MoreAnyone installed their own stair runner?
Comments (18)Thanks for all the kind words and advice. I only want a runner because I love the look of them and that it still allows some of the wooden 'bones' of the staircase to be displayed. Given that absolutely no-one has said "yeah - install it yourself - it's so easy!" I'm definitely feeling inclined to save up for longer and get it done professionally. I'm currently thinking of going for the wool loop carpet attached in a beige/natural colour-way and edged with a dark charcoal linen border....See MoreAwkward kitchen shape - Help!
Comments (26)Structural engineer calculations may be needed if you remove substantial walls but I suspect you are not going to do that. Should you decide to later your builder can probably arrange this. Concept designers likely have different ways of working so take your lead from them. I would look at the professionals part of this site and contact a couple for more details about how they work. Both OnePlan and CreatePerfect are big contributors to this app. Once you have a plan for what you want to do you should get the builder back to quote for works- if you need to make purchases the designer will be able to help. Should you feel that the likely cost is acceptable you should check with your local planning office. If you are extending you will need permission which will require formal plans likely prepared by an architect or an architectural technician. If you are changing the outward appearance of the house you may need permission. If you are putting the kitchen in another room or creating a bathroom you will need building regulations. Any planning or regulation questions are easily sourced on the planning part of your borough council website. Should you decide to go ahead you can get your designer or another professional to manage the project or you can do it yourself. If you do it yourself you should research contracts for your builder, keep on the right side of your neighbours, make sure your house insurance is beefed up for tradespeople, and expect it to take a lot longer than the builder says....See Morejessegee
