The built in cupboards are beautiful, what colour did you paint them?

I am looking at doing something similar for a client and was slightly put off by having the build in cupboards and then wallpaper as well - but looking at this it CAN be done. A beautiful and relaxing room!

- sorry to use your space Lucy but can't find a way to "im" Elizabeth re her question. @Elizabeth, in this photo, I hand traced the wall area with the polygon lasso tool, placed that on another layer, selected a color and filled with the bucket; then with the mask still selected, I tuned the color in via the adust menu for hue and saturation. Hi Nicky, my apologies I have only just seen your message. We went for cornforth white Farrow and Ball (which it definitely not white). The shutters are not back open yet but some of them will need to go back on because the large expanses of grey look very grey. The bits next to the white look less austere. The new white garage door with windows has made a big difference. I'd be careful with a very pale grey because if your windows are anything like mine you'll find that they are not actually that white after all....

The dining area and the other area could be from two different houses. There’s definitely nothing modern about the dining area. Build in storage (cupboard on the bottom, shelves to the height of the picture rail) on each side of the fireplace. Change the chairs to a much simpler style. The cottage/country table cloth should be changed out for something less busy. If building storage isn’t possible, reduce what’s on the shelves and clear off the mantel.

Such a lovely room, but the cupboards and beams are so dark and light sapping, although I’m saying what you already know! You could paint the beams in a lighter shade like a taupe or even white along with the ceiling. I know you don’t want to paint the two units, but they would look lovely in white, cream, a soft green or taupe. Furniture has been painted for hundreds of years and certainly isn’t a new thing. The beams can be sand-blasted to their natural wood colour and I saw George Clarke do that on his programme last week, but it’s dusty work! That room has so much potential. Here’s a few ideas
