Will it be warm enough with large sliding glass or bi-folding door?
Comments (7)Hi Kelly, I see that you have not had a reply to your question. So I would like to help, New bi-fold doors and sliding doors have an excellent thermal value. Doors can be made of multiple materials but the best in look, durability is alimininum, with aluminium and double glazed glass zed glass units you will be more than comfortable in the summer and the winter. If you are concerned about the heat coming into the room, for example, if you are south facing, we have a product called thermal glass. We use thermal glass on our roof lights; it is a treated glass that has a tint and reflects heat, the double glazed units stop heat from escaping. I have attached a few pictures of our skylight showing the thermal glass and an example of large skylights and large bifolds, honestly you will not be worried at all with large amounts glass these thermal values. We are more than able to assist you if you still require product advice. Thank you....See MoreBifold or Sliding doors dilemma?
Comments (20)We decided on a sliding door ( 1 fixed panel plus one sliding) for our 4.2m wide opening in our soon to be built house. This worked for us as we didn't want too much frame to block our view. I will have a table to be positioned fairly near the fixed panel. Most of all it was because I could control our dog going in and out by varying the opening...he likes to sit by our present sliding door and put his look out thru the gap and look out! Make sure you get a handle/locking system that's robust, some of the ones I looked at seemed really fiddly and a bit fragile for a triple glazed 2m wide door that's used a lot....See MoreSliding, Bi-Fold or Patio doors?
Comments (6)I had hardwood bi-folds fitted last year and it took me ages to decide what to get. The reason I finally chose bi-folds was I use all my garden doors several times a day even in the winter and just opening the one section is easy and folds back neatly and doesn’t catch the wind as easily. There also have magnetic catches. And opening three sections is very neat and gives the biggest opening. However these openings are only two metres wide. Where I have a 2.4 opening I’ve got French windows and the 60cm doors fold back and hook onto the side windows well. Tbh bi-folds aren’t my favourite but they best suited the openings....See MoreBifold vs sliding doors
Comments (12)We had the very same dilemma. I wanted the option of being able to open the door slightly, rather than having to open up a whole panel. In the end I factored in that our house has a lot of glass in it, it’s south facing on the living areas all day long and therefore one of our problems was the house being too warm. It only takes the sun to be out and the sky bright to warm up the house, doesn’t have to be even warm outside - we still have sun in winter! We went for bi fold in the end and it was the best decision, there may be a week give or take when we haven’t had them open but just a week or so in 6 months. Have them opened up all the time, and a previous poster mentioned about flies, it’s true, no flies stuck in the house ( incidentally a bonus). My neighbour went for sliding and regrets not having bi folds...See MoreTani H-S
