Need window treatment that doesn't block a gorgeous view

The walls are a coral red, the rug in the front is a presidential blue and off-white with some gold.

If you want to keep your view completely and just want to add a design element, I would go with a valance. This would keep it at the top and you would get to keep your view. You can also do a top down bottom up roman shade or cellular shade. This will allow the shade to be completely closed if you need some privacy, or bring the top down and you still have a view. Drapery is also always an option as well. You can have a center draw and open it when you would like to keep your view and close it when you want to. Hope this helps!

I think that is a double-track and they have a second, heavier curtain behind it. But even if they don't, I think that is what you should do for versatility and look. They actually have it built into the frame so it is hidden and super sleek, but I think you can achieve this look if you run it along where the angled ceiling meets the wall. I would take a picture of your room and what you like to John Lewis, or another high end store or specialist curtain maker and ask their advice for specifics. I was just trying to give you an idea that I hoped you would like! I'm sorry I can't be super specific, but I think you need to have these custom made to do justice to the room, the view, and to get exactly what you want.

A Life More Beautiful - I appreciate the advice for moving the rod. I'll give that a try. It shouldn't be much of an issue for the drapes as they are very close to floor length but are covered up by the bed and the rocker anyway. :). So there should be a gap between the rod & the top of the shades then? I think my husband assumed it should sit right on top. I've actually never heard of a pelmet. I'm off to check google! I thought the fairy lights were rather cute & the girls love them. Only a few dollars at ikea too. :)

Smart kitchen in an elegant room. If you know how the shutters were originally fitted, that may be the more expensive but better solution. Perhaps they were vertical sliding sash shutters stowing behind the window seat, since there's no obvious space to the side reveals for hinged shutters. If your house happens to be listed, check that you wouldn't need listed building consent for the work. Roman blinds could be OK, but finding the right position for them without disturbing the architectural integrity of the window ensemble could be tricky. You probably know that Roman blinds when retracted would still drop up to 200mm which would obscure the windows to a degree.

I too thought shutters would block out too much light, but the look when fitted is so lovely, and with wider size slats, the more light they let in. The pics below have small slats but its the same style of bay with shutters. Also don't have the push rods on the front if you want a cleaner look. Having the slats split so top/bottom open separately like pic below is also good if you want privacy without shutting out light from the top. High gloss shutters also reflect light into the room and shutters seem to go with any look, period or contemporary.
