Open plan living-blank canvas. Colour + warmth needed!

Hi Houzzers,
I'm a long time fan/stalker of Houzz and I could really do with your help.
We moved into our new house nearly five months ago and it's still cold and sterile. Everything was painted white and as you can see, we have a white leather sofa, white kitchen, white tiles, white dining chairs and white pendant lights!! That's why it's cold and sterile lol I desperately want to add some colour, personality, warmth and style. That's where I need your help.
Is it necessary to continue the same colour through the family room, kitchen and dining room?
I can't decide on a colour scheme and therefore am open to ideas. Don't know whether to go for a mix of bright colours or a definite colour scheme. Initially I was thinking navy, turquoise and gold but maybe navy would close the space down. The rest of my house is pretty neutral and muted. Any suggestions?
At the minute, I have some temporary yellow and turquoise cushions on the sofa but want to replace them ASAP. My roman blinds are like a duck egg blue colour so I think I may have restricted myself there?
I need to buy curtains, a rug, a low hanging light (from the high ceiling), cushions, some art work (for over the sofa) and some decorative items.
I bought a sheepskin throw y'day to try and add some warmth and texture and I think I'll buy a knitted pouffeé too.
Anyone have any suggestions to colour schemes, inspiration pix or ideas as to whether I should have a dramatic lighting fixture, or focal rug/artwork/curtains?
Any ideas would be very much appreciated. Thank you for reading :)

Comments (11)Hi Sophie. It's a lovely house. I might be inclined to continue the grey paint. Perhaps on the window ŵall to frame the shutters and also in the left alcove of the dining room but try it just up to the pillar. I would pull the mustard chair out of the alcove so it's kind of angled to the left of the fire. Move the footstool in front of that fire and add a small table and lamp in the alcove. If you're keen on a beni rug perhaps a cowhide in front of that fire. I'd also pull the dining table out so its under the light. Do you have benches both sides as chairs might be nice on one? Living room, I might go for a round mirror in silver to tie in with the other but add a large vase of some faux greenery/flowers on the left of the mantle which will tie in with the tiles, Do you have pics of the other side of the room and alcove measurement re layout and tv unit? Does the tv actually fit in the alcove? I do like your existing coffee table as it ties in all the white, if not I'd use a trunk. Comments (4)Hi. I'm not sure if the sofa is going to be best sat opposite the fire as the sofa width is wider than the alcove? I'd put a console behind the sofa to dress with lamps etc. if you have the tv in the larger alcove have you thought about using a console table? Either one with a large single drawer for the sky box (will need a magic eye or whatever they're called plus a hole in the back for leads!) or one with a shelf at the bottom. They seem quite difficult to find in the right size but have found one below. Perhaps a chair facing the sofa kind of angled semi in the alcove with a floor lamp behind . Re oriental feel, oka have quite a few oriental inspired accessories etc so maybe a lamp and a piece of blue and white china. They also do faux hydrangea which would suit your look and some lovely cushions! You could also consider a darker wallpaper in the alcoves similar to pic that will follow just as an idea to add pattern. A French grey would be lovely, just check the undertones with your sofa. Maybe your existing white chairs could be change for some with a coloured upholstery. We have a large number of chairs available in 56 colours of leather and eco leather, including Duck Egg Blue and Taupe which have been mentioned by others. I attach a photo of Doris Chairs with Taupe Leather upholstery.
Do you have a Breakfast Bar? You could have barstools to match the chairs. I don't have a photo showing duck egg blue upholstery, but I attach a photo showing chairs and bar stools upholstered in matching lime green, just to illustrate the idea.

9 years agoTry getting some warming lights in there to help create a special ambience.
You'll be best off buying some warm white lamps -> these will give off a yellowy golden glow.
As for the actual fittings -> the wall behind the sofa has plenty of room for some statement wall lighting. Possibly even colour changing LEDs or an elaborate fitting. Your ceilings are lovely and tall, so yes definitely a pendant of some sort.. this can bring the light further down rather than installing downlights inserted into the ceiling.
