Dear Esther Jury, thank you very much for such a detailed response. First and foremost, we think alike. My deck will definitely be at the same level of my window threshold. Given the practical reasons due to varying ground levels and also not to make it look too, how should I put it, stocky, I am going to have a floating deck. Think Frank Lloyd Wright cantilevered decks like the kind in his Falling Water house (can figure out my adoration for him from my moniker). I have researched thoroughly about woods, composites, value for price and have decided to go with Iroko. It supposedly ages into a beautiful dark brown. Today, my old architect suggested cladding with Iroko for retaining walls and steps. Very interesting idea. Have to explore the durability of the wood for such use. I too love my garden/forest. Can you believe I am 5 minutes from the City centre and I don't see a soul and have fox and their cubs bask in the sun on wintery morning and all types of birds floating about. It fills me with serenity and I am grateful for it and hence why I dwell so long on choices, so I get it right and don't take anything away from its beauty.

Agree with Man About the House. We too have just finalised an all white, handle-less kitchen and it looks fab. There is no need to worry at this point as there are always things you can do to warm is up or dampen the clinical look. Once complete and you know how the space feels, you can add any warm touches as suggest by Man About the House. Did you not get a 3D render of the space? Rebecca thanks for the help! Kinorigo looks amazing. They have a black and white dining table that is just beautiful. Would be great if they also did that as a coffee table. They only offer a bespoke service? Sound a bit scary! Can you pm me a price estimate if you've had something similar previously? I'm currently torn between the Platner, the pedrera by gubi and the 'my moon' table my morose!! The gubi is probably my favourite just because of its classic simplicity but it might get a bit lost.

Maybe some evergreen shrubs? They will give green colour all year round and pretty easy to look after. There are no plants that flower all year round, but if you choose spring and summer flowerers and some that flower in winter it will create changing seasonal interest. Easy evergreens are Fatsia japonica (Sam’s suggestion) - exotic looking but really tough Photinia Red Robin - glossy green leaves whose tips are bright red in the spring Viburnum tinus - pale pink flowers in winter Ceanothus - gorgeous blue flowers in spring. Camellia - pink, red or white flowers in spring. Need acid soil. Trachelospermum - climber with white fragrant flowers in summer, commonly called the Star Jasmine. Cistus - Small shrub with papery flowers in pink or white. Lavender - no explanation needed! You can then fill in the gaps with perennial flowers and feathery grasses. This type of planting is called Prairie Planting and is very popular at the moment and very easy to look after. There is a saying “Right Plant Right Place” so check whether plants you buy need sun or shade or a mixture. Putting a shade loving plant in the sun and it could shrivel and die.
