Bean bags - hot or not?

A black pleather bean bag was an essential part of my room when I was a child. It was comfy and you could spill things on it and just wipe it off, plus all the cool kids had one (or so I thought).

Going through Houzz photos, I'm seeing bean bags again. But not just in children's rooms and their design is far more sophisticated than the black, slouchy thing that resided in my home.

Are bean bag styles coming back? Do you have one in your home? Are they hot or not?

Like you, I have an old time love of beanbags and bought an oversized one for our house. I have also noticed that no-one really wants to sit in it. It is always the last chair in the room to be sat in. Most that sit in it say how comfortable it is, but was pleased that we all had a good sense of humour when trying to get my eldery mother back out of it one day. It almost consumed her...I have been recently thinking of getting rid and replacing it with a proper chair. Will keep an eye on your comments, to see what others think.

They deserve to be hot! We used this babies in our project for Hampstead Design Hub and people love this "lazy corner".

Going out used to be great. If it wasn't for the smart phone users and other inconsiderate people frequenting them they would still be. Every time I go nowadays there seems to be something going on.

I think your ideas are great, but very different from each other. It looks like rooms for different age people. I would think about what your DD would use the room for, how long do you want it to last her and as you say, the colour scheme (Red, white and blue, greens and white, yellows oranges and white are some non-pink ideas) I find that play rooms with lots of storage for toys, a small table and chairs (for drawing and arts and crafts) as well as a rug is what is most useful. The children like sitting on the floor, so other seating is often left unused and just takes up floor space (that could otherwise be used for play)

In our showroom we have a Miele built in coffee machine at the moment. It takes beans and is very easy to clean (practically does it itself). I find the coffee comes out a lot hotter than nespresso machines. Hope this helps https://www.miele.co.uk/domestic/built-in-coffee-machines-1760.htm

Tv in lounge/diner or 'snug'?

We also thought hard about this when moving to our house. The solution was to buy a small tv for the playroom and keep another tv in our front lounge. We are not massive tv watchers, but we enjoy watching a good film, in a mess free room! Also, there is no way I would allow my kids in my lounge to watch tv on a regular basis as it is the one room in the house that we like to keep quiet and tidy!

I really like them but sadly my house is just so small that I have no room for one. I had an xxxxxxl small bed sized one for the back garden in the summer which was lovely, but when it rained it got ruined and I had no where to store it. It was so large that throwing it away took 2 wheelie bins! I think they are great for adults and especially children's bedrooms.

I dislike them. It's easy to plop down in one-and very difficult to get out! Unless you're under age 12, they're impractical.

We have two Big Joe brand bags. Very nice in the bonus room , and comfy for adults as well as the kids.

We have had them in the past. Mostly used when the boys were young. Don't like them now though.

my husband always is wanting one. but impossible. we have no room for it, what-so-ever. if we did though, i'm sure he'd get one. there re lots of great looking ones these days

As a kid, I always always wanted a bean bag and for some reason my parents refused to buy one. As I have grown up and matured, the desire for a big, fluffy bean bag hasn't changed one bit

I think it all depends on the tone and style of the room. If you're into entertaining, have children or enjoy a laid back night then they're great. Storage seems like the hardest thing with the big bean bags when you don't want them on display.

I want to get a few cream fur bean bags for my family room , when my house is full of teenagers the bean bags will be an ideal place to sit and watch a film and also add a cosy factor . I love them .

Bean bags are totally AWESOME, As a child I had one in the shape of a giant shoe, well it was the 80's, lets be brave people, design is not meant to be serious, its meant to make us smile.

i think in the right place they are great. tv/family rooms/ kids rooms and the garden they work well. fab for snuggling down to watch a movie or read a book. There are heaps of shapes, sizes and fabric finishes available. If you get waterproofed ones they can be used inside and out. I used these ones for two little boys in their bedroom and they absolutely love them. Other than using them for chill out time before bed they are great for jumping off the bed and into them with great squeals of laughter!!!
