New Home: Small Space HELP!!
Comments (20)Hello Rebecca. Congrats on the house! I think aubergine would work nicely with the kitchen timber. I'd look for some wallpaper to put on the lounge wall where they have hung their artwork. I'm thinking maybe a grey/beige background with a aubergine pattern. I'd choose a charcoal sofa (to match worktop) and add your aubergine again in cushions & throws and possibly a lighter charcoal rug. Make this area your 'cosy' space. At the other end of the room I would get a Large mirror for the wall and paint the frame in aubergine to match the paper and bring the colour down the room whilst also reflecting light. The kitchen is quite dark for such a small space so I'd just accessorise with a utensil holder, a handtowel and a couple of vases all in aubergine. I'd also keep as little as possible on the worktop! For your table, i'd buy a long glass console table and put it under the window opposite the kitchen to keep the space clear and un cluttered. The bathroom I'd accessorise with yellow! Grey and yellow are gorgoeus together! Look out for a yellow handsoap and buy a yellow bathmat. a tall modern yellow vase for the window sill and either some artwork for the walls or a mirror. That leaves orange for the bedroom!!! I'd start by finding a material or wallpaper with an amazing pattern that I love that has orange in it and then accessorise the rest of the room around the feature. Good Luck and ENJOY!...See MoreNew house has long living room, need help with layout and design.
Comments (10)Hello! Wow! Thank you very much for your advice. So, there is a radiator on the right hand wall. That is where current owners put their tv. Not sure it will fit, will measure up soon hopefully. The TV could go on a smaller unit to be honest, and will make sure radiator is turned down! Just worried that there isn't enough room for a corner sofa there with the door to the hallway..(see photos on rightmove) I LOVE the idea of large mirrors either side of fireplace. Pinching that! ;) My current living room is decorated in shades of greys and lots of gold. Thinking of going navy and gold but not too sure. Sofa colours argh! Huge thanks I'm very grateful. Comments (2)Thanks Ellie, I know what you mean and that would make sense - but I have a window in the back of the living area which lets in lots of light to the main room. We are on a main road so the shutters at front of the house are always half closed for privacy. The bottom window gives us a pretty view onto the garden and lots of light. I'd hate to lose this within a toilet/utility room in a house which is already quite dark, especially the hallways. I could lose the utility room and just incorporate my white goods and larder within the new kitchen area so could just somehow squeeze a cloakroom in there somewhere. I'll keep trying. Thanks so much for your reply and thoughts. It's really appreciated....See MoreLayout help for new house
Comments (6)congrats on having your offer accepted. hope it all goes through quickly! I think the 2 other floorplans you posted would both work great for your (soon-to-be) house. I think the first one (grey drawing) is a better use of space personally. I'm not sure on costs, I dont think moving the toilet should be a hugely expensive as it's not moving far. You could keep cost down by not building the wall between the hallway and lounge. you could just use clever furniture positioning to give the same feel (i.e sofa placed with the back where that wall would be or even get a freestanding shelf unit as a divider), this would also keep light going in to the hallway area. If you have a photo of the downstairs loo showing where the soil stack comes in from, along with the above floorplans, this might be enough for a builder to give you a rough idea of cost. Or further along in the process, your vendors might be accomodating enough to let you bring a builder round. we did that with our first house, took a builder on our 2nd viewing!...See Moreraineycarole
