exposed bricks what type of material to colour

we r having a exposed bricks exterior.the quality of bricks is not too good I wish to have ideas for what material or colour to use to improve the look

Not sure where are you based but I used Homebase Masonery Red Brick paint thinned with water. It looks very natural, doesn't leave a shell on surface. You can buy a small tin for £2.79 for 225ml to try the colour. To make it more bricky you can buy two colours and mix them to get some tones like Chocolate.

I paint terracotta tiles on my bay window using that paint (red brick, chocolate, black) if you want lighter effect you can use terracotta colour. Had a big problem to remove the eggshell White paint end up painting it over.

The Heals one is just too neon-y. I bought a blue one, from outside it looks like we live in an aquarium or an UFO is landing. Inside, hurts the eyes after a few minutes. I guess it's fine for a large room, not an entrance hall. I didn't buy the Florence Jaffarain, as they are listed as pendants - I need something to plug in - we placed a light switch especially for that plug, so we can turn a lamp on from the switch when we come in. I could get an electrician to convert it, but I need time to recover after the experience with the Heals light. :))

You can probably get away with any colour if they're old brick which I suspect they are? If it's really modern red brick, then shades of blue, grey, white, green would work. In terms of painting it grey do you know which way the room faces and how much light it gets? If it has little light there are still a few paler greys that would work. The curtains are very dark so that doesn't help. If you're seeing clients I would probably go for a pale grey ( I don't know what type of clients they are but am assuming a calm, light environment is needed?!) Do you have any existing furniture to put in the room? I only ask as there are thousands of paint colours so it's normally easier to pick wall colour after the sofa etc.

Hi. To my non-expert eye they look like silver grey bricks. If not, someone did a fantastic paint effect! I also love it exactly as it is without repointing. If you really want it red, why not test one brick with masonry paint stripper in an inconspicuous area? If it turns out to be painted and you want it "smarter" looking then make sure you specify the colour of the grout to tie it in with the original as I made the mistake of not doing so when I had to have mine rebuilt with reclaimed bricks :(

Bricks are a fired clay product and will give you 4 hours fire resistance so do not worry about fire. If the wall is internal then no problem re heat insulation, however if the wall is an external wall then the insulation to a new wall should meet the current heat insulation standards for a dwelling.How you meet the requirements will depend on the construction. If a new structure it should have been checked by the Building Inspector. If an existing wall then check out the construction to assess where and how it can be insulated - cavity fill would be most discrete if you wish to avoid heat loss. Traditionally almost any paint can be used but will need regular freshening . if you like the bricks then simply seal them with a proprietary brick sealant and no more painting of that wall.
