How can I tile curved concrete steps and risers using Porcelain tile?

The house has concrete stairs curved onto a curved landing. He lounge has curved concrete steps down into sunken Lounge. I want to use White 24" square Tiles, will I have to use a small mosaic, on the edge and risers, It's all i can think of?

Maybe use a composite for the steps ? Have a word with a local fabricator and see what they think is possible ?! Or if that proves to be too expensive - perhaps wood might work ?! As tiny tiles might be more 'swimming pool' ?!?

Yes I had thought of wood, but didn't want an all wood lounge floor in the tropics, maybe just the top edge, and a veneer topped wood that can be shaped on the risers might work.Thanks

The tiler has not grouted them yet so maybe this does not help the look. The colour is called Bianco so a neutral colour tile in day time but at night they loose their colour and look cold concrete and look really horrible. LED lights don't help either. I deliberated so long about whether tiles or wood was right but decided tiles because of the underfloor heating. I have made wrong decision and not sure how to rectify the expensive mistake now. I will upload photo when they are grouted and would welcome some advice thank you. Will rugs be enough to disguise the hard cold look of them. Not sure tiles in a living area works in UK .

The main thing is that Porcelain Tiles are produced to a very high tolerance, that is to say that they are very flat, even if they have texture. Ground can move at any time due to drying out, getting wetter or tree roots to mention 3 common reasons. Whatever you are laying you need a good stable base but what will be adequate depends on your site and soil. On a new build for instance a good option would be a concrete base with re-enforcing as there will have been lots of movement of soil and things could take a few years to really settle back down. Because the tiles are very precise, unlike say a rustic brick pavior or a riven natural stone, even a millimetre or two of difference from one to another will show up. It's almost as precise as laying fully sawn paving. I've done a lot of landscaping jobs myself but when I want Porcelain Tiles or Sawn Paving laid then I get someone who does a lot of it!

Porcelain is a tough tile which will not crack or break easily. they are very long lasting. vinyl is out dated and just doesn't look good. Your other option should be ceramic tiles. So it should be between ceramic and porcelain. I'd still recommend porcelain but ceramic is cheaper, that's the biggest advantage of ceramic. Thanks Angela, I'm aware of the mat and ply, I'm more after advice regarding expansion joints etc and how to make them not so obvious and where they are needed inside and out and what's required on the join between suspended and concrete? Sorry I should have been clearer. Thanks.

Many Tile ranges now come with special step edge pieces. A lot of times these are not advertised by the retailers but they are available. Many of our ranges have this option available.
