I've always been a stars and stripes kind of guy, at least when it comes to bed linen - a little pattern never hurt anybody! But recently I went for something different and invested in some all-white bed linen, and it looks pretty great!

Comments (49)Unfortunately, MRSA is all over, not just lurking in hospitals anymore. My nephew contracted it when he was about 18 months old. The doctors had strict guidelines to follow for prevention of further outbreaks for both him, and the entire family. Comments (22)Whether or not to use a valance is dependent on the style of bed and the room it's in. I'm about to make up gathered valances for a client in a colourful fabric by Voyage Decoration. It will soften the hard lines of the wood bed frame and add lots of colour to the single beds. The same fabric is being used for the gathered valance on the large angled bay window. This Edwardian room can take the large areas of pattern and will benefit from the frilliness. In another room, I've specified a plain valance in a dobby weave with pleats at the corners and in the middle of the long sides of the bed. The room is elegant but simple. In another, more contemporary home, I've used upholstered bedsteads so no valances were required. Incidently, in the USA what we refer to as a bed valances is known as a dust ruffle. We personally think that linens should be above 300 thread count. Below 300 thread count the yarns are too thick to provide the smoothness we must expect from good quality linen. However, above 300 thread count, what matters is not the highest thread count at all, but rather the quality of the yarn itself because you can only weave great linen with good long staple yarns. Pay attention to the feel of the fabric on the top side but also on the underside of the linen you are contemplating buying. The underside will reveal how well woven it is and how tight the weave is... We recommend you choose the best weave for you: satin or percale depending on whether you like your linen light and cool or soft and silky. Only then, do choose your thread count. 8 years agolast modified: 8 years agoI've always loved colour, locked myself in my room as a teenager and painted the walls red. I also miss the vibrant colour of living in Sydney, the luscious trees and blue ocean as well as tropical flowers so had to find some colour and tropical prints ... bright, hot, wild and very feminine colours (and all in lovely high count cotton sateen, my favourite) ... it all looks much better in the room as a whole but can't catch it all at the right angle in a photo but love it.
