Art Deco Fireplace

Just moved into our new house & I'm not sure how to decorate the lounge as we have this fireplace, see picture. It won't be to everyone's taste but I've grown fond of it! Is the fire place Art Deco inspired? The house was built in 1954. We have original parquet flooring, large bay window to the front and two small windows either side of the fireplace. I really have no idea what colours/ style to decorate our lounge, any ideas would be welcome.

Comments (6)It does not require it but you would need to clean really well to get an even and clean covering. It usually needs more than one coat I find.. but you will need to see dependent on the colouring. It can be OK but only as a temporary fix and you need to take your time and do it properly as mistakes are really hard to change once you start painting - a run in it for example. It then also very noticeable. Personally if you hate it and it doesn't go with the new room your starting to create then I think go for it. It's a cost effective way to make you happy until you can change it later. It's got a lovely Scandinavian style, and is curved and soft, so fits in with lots of different interiors, including an Art Deco room. 9 years agoI'm open to any colours, our old lounge had these colours (cushion picture)as accents & have a green leather sofa. Apart from a TV, coffee table & side table the lounge is bare! Also need ideas for dressing the windows.

9 years agoI would say add large abstract geometric canvas above the fireplace, in ombre - gold colours to compliment the fireplace, and put some brown art deco tall slim vase / sculpture on the floor, but the fireplace. Don't place any modern furniture directly by the fireplace, but stick to the Art Deco inspired pieces - like a coffee table, chair, decor etc. Truly stunning piece you've got there and I'm not surprised you want to keep it :)

9 years agoI rent out my former family home which also has Art Deco fireplaces - they work well with neutrals and rich fabrics - here the walls are neutral, but the upholstery is brown velvet.

9 years agoI love Art Deco !! I would go depending the size of the room with an egg shell blue or a green!! If your looking for inspiration look up the many Art Deco images on google specially in Los Angeles !! Gorgeous fireplace by the way..
